Good day Carson City, it is Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018. With steady rain in the city early this morning, slushy snow in the foothills and heavy snow in the Sierra, we are on our way to winter even though it is still technically fall. It sure is beginning to look like Christmas, especially as we head into the weekend, with Friday's Silver and SnowFlakes Festival of Lights at the capitol and Saturday's downtown Holiday Crawl.

Carson City weather: Slushy roads possible for commutes, more rain and snow on the way

Rain has changed to heavy, wet snow Thursday morning along lower valley floors above Carson City, Minden, Reno and Sparks, according to the National Weather Service.

CARSON CITY — Get fit for your Winter Sports and Activities. Well Being (Massage and Functional Fitness) hosts its second Winter Sport and Activity Conditioning Program this year. All winter sport and activity enthusiasts in the area are invited to participate.

The three week program began Monday, Nov. 26, 2018. Training days and times include the following:

— Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday mornings at 9:00 a.m.
— Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 5:30 p.m.

Goose Apocalypse: how do you deal with a geese infestation?

Robbie Sikes is the superintendent of the Empire Ranch Golf Course, and he is sick and tired of geese.

“On any given day when I get in, there are at least a thousand geese out on the greens,” said Sikes. “I’ve tried everything. The repellent doesn’t seem to do anything. People said get a dog to chase them, but I’ve got a lab who chases them every morning and they only fly up in the air and land in the ponds.”

1941-2018

Andrew, better known as Andy, was born on his family’s ranch in Yerington, Nevada. He was the fourth of five children of Albert “Burr” and Marion, including Al, Fred, Madeline and Mary Lou.

Andy enjoyed his upbringing in Yerington, making friends, working on ranches, playing football, excelling in scholastics and having more than his share of fun. His accolades from high school included being elected Governor of Boys State and later being inducted into the Yerington High Football Hall of Fame.

Will storms bring snow to Carson City? Forecasters say valley floor maybe, foothills likely

A clearer picture of what this week’s series of storms may bring has emerged from National Weather Service forecasters Monday, with a Winter Storm Watch now in effect for Lake Tahoe and Sierra, which could see 3 or more feet of snow and a slight chance of snow down to the valley floors by the end of the week.

NDOT: Bike lanes coming to section of Centerville Lane in Gardnerville

Beginning Tuesday, lane closures and detours will be in place on Centerville Lane, State Route 756, near Waterloo Lane in Gardnerville as the Nevada Department of Transportation adds bicycle lanes to the roadway.
