During an official ceremony, 2,000 American flags were officially retired Friday. The ceremony was led by Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell, with local elected officials, veterans groups, the Carson High School NJROTC and others.

Carson City schools are hosting a number of Veterans Day events Thursday to recognize and honor military men and women including display projects on the lawn at Carson Middle School. Veterans from all branches of military service are invited to view, or attend any of these events including local students and their families.

On August 28, 2016, Edith W. Fritsch Elementary School 8-year-old 3rd grader Chloe Woodbury announced her state service project for the Children of the American Revolution, U.S. Flag retirement bins, at a dedication ceremony of the first bin placed at the Carson City Library and attended by Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell and other elected officials and featured in local news media and on Reno television.

Carson City students will recognize and honor military men and women this week with Veteran’s Day displays and events. Veterans from all branches of military service, as well as families of students, are encouraged to attend. Campus visitors should check in at the front office at each school site.

Here is an updated parade list for all the entries in the Nevada Day Parade on Saturday. Note, there was a last-minute change in streets where the entries are supposed to line up that is different than the printed program. The change was made to accommodate some larger floats. A Nevada Army National Guard sergeant first class was among the fatalities at the Route 91 Harvest concert late Sunday evening, Oct. 1, 2017. Sgt. 1st Class Charleston Hartfield, 34, a Soldier in the 100th Quartermaster Company headquartered in Las Vegas, was attending the concert when he was shot and killed.

RENO — A total of 12 Nevada Guard Soldiers and Airmen departed Nevada on Friday morning aboard a Nevada Air Guard C-130 cargo plane and are en route to Puerto Rico to assist with the disaster relief after Hurricane Maria struck the territory last week.

Around two dozen runners and walkers remembered the victims of a mass shooting in Carson City that happened six years ago Wednesday in which five people died, including three Nevada National Guardsmen.

Six years ago, shots rang out and Carson City was thrust into the middle of a tragedy. Four people died in the IHOP shooting, three of them National Guard members. Today, they will be honored again during the annual Remembrance Run. If you are driving along Fairview, please give them some extra room. CARSON CITY - A crew of five Nevada Air Guardsmen are set to fly a C-130 Hercules Cargo Aircraft to Texas Thursday and assist the Texas National Guard with airlift operations in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.

CARSON CITY — A Nevada Army Guard CH-47 Chinook helicopter crew will fly to Texas Wednesday to assist emergency responders in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. The Chinook helicopter crew is set to assist the Texas National Guard with search and rescue missions in the Houston, Texas, vicinity.

Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval will honor a distinguished area veteran and a veteran's support group in a ceremony this coming Monday, August 21. The public is invited to attend as United Veterans Legislative Council Chairman Kevin Burns and the Douglas County non-profit, Welcome All Veterans Everywhere will be recognized and honored.

At Nevada, Hunt played Division 1 softball and soccer where she was more comfortable around campus wearing gender-neutral athletic sweats and sportswear as opposed to dresses and high heels.

The Nevada National Guard is set to host its 19th annual Flag Day and U.S. Army's 242nd birthday celebration 10 a.m. this Wednesday, June 14 at the Veterans Memorial on Capitol grounds, 101 N. Carson St. in Carson City.

Reno, NV – The state’s Veterans Coordinator is organizing a State of Nevada Career Fair which features employment opportunities and other resource information for Nevada Veterans, June 22, in Reno. Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval signed several bills into law Tuesday and vetoed four. Additionally on Monday, he approved four veteran and military related measures at a Memorial Day ceremony in Boulder City.

Dozens gathered this Memorial Day at Lone Mountain Cemetery in Carson City to honor those men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom and liberty.

CARSON CITY — Governor Brian Sandoval hosted community advocates, law enforcement officials, members of the Legislature and their invited guests in his office Monday for the signing of several bills. The Governor has signed 73 bills into law with 22 receiving final approval.

The 2017 NJROTC award ceremony was held Monday night in Carson City, where cadets, officers, chiefs and commanders were recognized for their continued commitment to Carson High School, their community and country.
