Everyone is welcome to join Nevada National Guard Soldiers and Airmen this Sunday, Sept. 6, for the 4th annual Remembrance Run as the Nevada Guard commemorates the lives of the four victims of the Sept. 6, 2011, International House of Pancakes shooting incident in Carson City.

A civil support team with the National Guard are doing training exercises today and Thursday at the Nevada State Capitol building, according to the Nevada National Guard.

Sgt. Mike Horton with Nevada National Guard Public Affairs office said the team, which has recently relocated from Las Vegas, is performing training on local government grounds.

Carson City dispatch is participating today in an active shooter drill. Staging of the event involves dispatch, the National Guard, Carson City Sheriff's Office and Fire Department and other area agencies. This is a drill and there is not an emergency.
The drill is at the Nevada National Guard headquarters.

UPDATE: A report at 4:33 p.m. from Carson City Fire department is that a single tree was smoking, presumably from a lightning strike, and that it doesn't appear to be spreading.

A brush fire was reported this afternoon near the Nevada National Guard complex, in the 2600 block of Fairview. Carson City fire crews are responding.

Carson City Library’s Summer Reading Program will kick off with the Breakfast for Books at 8-10 a.m. Saturday.
“It’s important kids keep reading in the summer so they start off strong in the fall,” said Heather Butler, youth services librarian. “This bridges the gap at the end of the school year.”

A 23-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday night on felony domestic battery charges after allegedly choking his pregnant wife, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said. Damien Gabriel Dominguez was arrested and then released later on $15,000 bail following the incident.

Sierra Nevada Corporation announced Wednesday the successful completion of the Transport Telemedicine System Proof of Military Utility Advanced Development Assessment for the U.S. Army Medical Material Agency. TTS is a new capability that captures and communicates patient care and condition information beginning at the Point of Injury and continuing until arrival at a medical facility.

Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval joined more than two dozen soldiers and airman, sheriff’s deputies, firefighters and families Saturday to pay respects by jogging in a memorial run in Carson City to commemorate the four victims who died at the International House of Pancakes shooting on Sept. 6, 2011.

Hello fellow anglers, welcome to Labor Day weekend. It seems as though the summer flew by again, and here we are going into September. Last week Renee and I spent a few days in Alpine County. We set up base camp at the Carson River Resort. The resort is centralized in the area we enjoy fishing the most. We started on the East Carson River and worked our way up to Wolf Creek and Silver Creek. The water flows have slowed down but are still very fishable.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Army National Guard is set to team up with the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association and become one of the association's partners for the 2014-2015 academic year, Nevada Guard and
NIAA officials said Thursday. The NIAA is the non-profit organization of secondary schools in Nevada that acts as the governing body of high school athletics and activities.

Nevada Army Guard Brig. Gen. Michael Hanifan began his remarks during the 16th annual Flag Day ceremony at the Nevada Capitol Assembly Chambers Friday by explaining why the flags around the state were at half-staff.

Discounted tickets to the 25th American Century Championship, the all-star sports and celebrity golf tournament at south shore Lake Tahoe held July 15-20, are now on sale at Raley's, Nob Hill and Bel Air locations throughout Northern California and Nevada.

The Nevada National Guard is getting a federal cash boost to help unemployed veterans find jobs. The Secretary of Defense-Reserve Affairs has approved a $650,000 grant, to help jobless or underemployed veterans secure jobs across the silver state.

DeDe Stevens of Carson City is this week's guest on Women to Women. Ms. Stevens was born in Bogota, Columbia of a Columbian birth mother who shortly gave her up for adoption in a Bogota orphanage.

Upon being adopted by an American family, DeDe officially entered the United States when she was 12 years old. She is a graduate of Arizona Western College in Yuma, Ariz., with a degree in Spanish.

Ms. Stevens has also spent 26 years in the National Guard from which she is now retired.
