Crime Log: Man arrested in Carson City for cocaine
Submitted by T. Costa on Tue, 05/29/2012 - 11:21amCarson City Sheriff's deputies made the following felony or gross misdemeanor arrests over Memorial Day Weekend:
- Joaquin Paul Gabriel Jr., 29, an electrician from San Jose, Calif., at 10:30 p.m. Friday. Gabriel was arrested for possession of a controlled substance (cocaine), as well as misdemeanor allegations of possession of less than one ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bail has been set at $4,100 plus administrative fees.
TRE Fire in southern Douglas County grows to 7,500 acres, 15 percent contained
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 05/24/2012 - 2:55pmThe TRE Fire burning in south Douglas County has grown to 7,500 acres, and is 15 percent contained, officials report Thursday.
The fire continues to burn in the hills to the north and east of the Topaz Ranch Estates residential area. Two homes and 17 structures were destroyed. No additional homes or structures have burned or are in immediate threat. The area in and around the fire is under a red flag warning to 11 p.m. Thursday due to high winds and relatively low humidity.
Memorial Saturday in Silver City for legendary broadcaster, hellraiser and satirist Travus T. Hipp
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 05/24/2012 - 2:26pmServices for legendary radio commentator Travus T. Hipp will be held this Saturday, May 26, in Silver City. Hipp died early Friday morning, May 18, at his Silver City home. He was 75, as old as the Golden Gate Bridge in his beloved San Francisco.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 26, in Silver City. Gathering, gnoshing and remembering will begin at the Silver City Community Center, 385 High Street, at 10:00 a.m. Food and refreshments will be provided. Those who wish may bring more.
Unique way to honor veterans this Memorial Day holiday
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Thu, 05/24/2012 - 10:44amOn Friday there is a unique way to remember and honor area veterans this Memorial Day weekend. The Carson Nugget is sponsoring a Bingo event on Friday, May 25 beginning at 7 p.m. in the Sierra Room.
The profits from the event will be donated to the Vietnam Veterans of America, Carson Area Chapter 388. The group is hoping to raise $10,000 to bring the Traveling Vietnam Wall tribute to Mills Park for the inaugural celebration of “Battle Born Days” in Carson City in October.
TRE Fire grows to 6,600 acres
Submitted by admin on Wed, 05/23/2012 - 11:40amDouglas County sent out an update this morning on the TRE Fire, which they say is now 6,600 acres. They also believe the fire was caused by a private residential open burn.

The fire has grown to 6,600 acres burned. 2 homes and 17 outbuildings have been reported damaged or burned from the fire. No personnel injuries have been reported or discovered.
North Lake Tahoe celebrates holiday weekend with four days of events

First Flume Trail Ride of the Year

McKeen motor car to ride the rails for National Train Day
Submitted by admin on Thu, 05/10/2012 - 6:27amCelebrating National Train Day, the Nevada State Railroad Museum’s historic 1910 McKeen motor car will ride the rails from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 12 in Carson City.
Now a stellar attraction for rail enthusiasts and family fun, the McKeen Motor car operated from 1910 to 1945 racking up more than a half-million miles between Reno and Minden. The prestigious car became a diner and an office but was rescued by the museum when it was donated by the Bernhard family of Carson City in 1995.

Dime-a-dance USO-style party

King St., Carson City. There will be a lesson at 7 p.m., with the social dance at 8-10:30 p.m. Men may purchase tickets for 10 cents a dance (or 12 tickets for $1). Between 8 and 9 p.m., each time you dance with a different woman, give her a ticket, which will be entered into a 9 p.m. drawing for raffle prizes.

He is definitely on Hendrick Motorsports’ bad list after ruining an almost certain 200th win and a probable 1-2-3 finish for the organization. Reutimann was limping around to try and stay in the top 35 in points when his car died at the end of the front straightaway, bringing out the caution. A wreck on the restart took out leaders Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon and damaged Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s car.
