‘Day of the Dead’ community event featured at Nevada State Museum in Carson City

One of Northern Nevada’s most popular cultural events — the annual Day of the Dead Community Celebration — returns to Carson City Friday and Saturday, Nov. 1-2, to the Nevada State Museum with a plethora of family friendly activities.

Permits to cut Christmas trees on the Carson and Bridgeport Ranger Districts of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest will be available for purchase beginning Friday, Nov. 1. The U.S. Forest Service Christmas Tree Program is designed for families, businesses, and institutions wishing to cut their own trees for decorating.

Senator Square: Walmart awards Carson High School cheerleaders $5,000 grant

Carson High School cheerleaders cheered as they entered Walmart in Carson City and then performed two more cheers on top of that. There is an old saying found in a very old book which says, “You have not because you ask not.”

Walmart gives $5,000 to Carson High School Cheer

The Carson High School Cheer Team would like to thank Walmart on Market Street in Carson City for awarding them a $5,000 Community Grant to help support the team. The money will be used for the 2019-2020 Competition Season. The team conducted two cheers inside the store as their way to say “Thank You” to the Walmart team.

Nevada jobs in September up over month and year, unemployment unchanged

CARSON CITY — September employment numbers in Nevada show jobs up by 6,000 over the month and 45,200 over the year. The state’s unemployment rate is unchanged from August, at 4.1 percent, and down 0.4 percentage point when compared to last September, according to figures released Wednesday by the state's Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.

Carson City announces sale of city-owned parcels on Brown Street

Carson City invites interested individuals to bid on the purchase of the Brown Street Properties comprising of parcel numbers 008-303-15, -16, -21, 36, -37, and -39, through public auction for not less than fair market value.

In 2005 the Western Nevada HOME Consortium (WNHC) funded the purchase of properties on Brown Street using federal HOME funds in order to construct 45 units of affordable, for-ownership low-income housing. This project failed to materialize due to the economic downturn and the eventual bankruptcy of the developer.

Carson City arrests: Woman jailed, allegedly switched price tags on merchandise

A 35-year-old Carson City woman was arrested in the 3200 block of Market Street for misdemeanor petit larceny and criminal contempt of a suspended sentence after allegedly switching price tags on several pieces of merchandise, a sheriff's deputy report said.

Fall is in the air and that signifies the end of the Carson Farmers Market. It has been a busy year for us with new vendors and more customers. Although we are all sad to see another season come to an end, we are relieved to have another successful year behind us and a few months of rest.

Today was the last day of the Carson City Farmers Market which has been going strong since Spring every Saturday. Carsonites gathered at the market for the last chance at locally grown fruits and veggies, delicious cheeses and meats, homemade crafts and all manner of trinkets and activities.
