Going into the eve of Halloween, teeth will be chattering as the weather calls for sunny skies but with a chill in the air and daytime temperatures in the upper 40s around the capital city. Events around town Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2019 include a Halloween costume walk at Riverview Park in Carson City, a "trick or trunk" event in Dayton, art showings, storytelling at the Carson City Library and more.

Artists from Carson City, Minden and Gardnerville will be featured at the 25th annual Northern Nevada Artisan Show and Sale this Friday and Saturday, Nov. 1-2 in Reno.

The event’s 25th anniversary will be dedicated to the memory of Jim McCormick, UNR Art Department chair, artist, curator and one of the founders of the show. Admission is free.

A free Creation Seminar for all ages begins Nov. 1, at 7 p.m. at the Carson City Seventh-day Adventist Church, 405 E College Pkwy, Carson City, Nev. Three more sessions occur on Saturday Nov. 2, at 11 a.m., 2 p.m., and 6 p.m.

Come and explore the wondrous works of our Creator with powerful object lessons, facts, and life-changing parables covering each day of the Creation week with Creation Illustrated magazine publishers Tom and Jennifer Ish.

Study guides, children's lessons and handouts, free gifts to those attending 3 or more meetings, and a free mid-day Saturday meal are included.

With the wildly festive Nevada Day weekend now behind us, a busy week is ahead as we begin to close out October and prepare to celebrate Halloween in the capital city. Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of events around the Carson City region Friday through Sunday to celebrate Nevada Day. Activities include the annual parade down Carson Street, a carnival at Mills Park, the 30th annual Nevada Day Classic, The La Ka Lel Be Pow Wow at the MAC, beard and rock drilling contests, delicious food dishes, pancakes, chili and plenty of beverages to suit kids and adults of all ages.

We're days away from our celebration of statehood and the weather around the capital city couldn't be more, well, Nevada-like with daytime highs near 70 and sunny skies. The Carson City Symphony Association announces the fourth annual instrumental music scholarship for Carson City students age 5 to 17. The scholarship was established by a generous gift from Jennifer and John Webley in memory of Rosemary Nebesky, former board member and friend of the Carson City Symphony Association.

The Northern Nevada Development Authority will host its monthly Business Edge meeting at Casino Fandango with a focus on Nevada's energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives. Also happening: Fusion cooking classes at Healthy Communities Coalition’s Dayton headquarters, plus the Veterans Resource Group will make a visit to the Dayton Food Pantry. There's also a Wine and Moondance Chocolate Pairing at Expresso Yourself inside the Brewery Arts Center, plus art workshops and showings, Salsa dancing and more.

Heading into the first day fall, Monday, Sept. 23, 2019 we are looking at cool temperatures as a cold front passes through before a warming trend starts up Tuesday. Homecoming, first seen in 1911 at the University of Missouri, is a wonderful event celebrated throughout the US at high schools and colleges. Homecoming is more than just a football game, it encompasses multiple celebratory events such as bonfires, tailgate parties, dances, and the crowning of a King and Queen. Fall is in the air in Carson City, and a change in the weather was one more reason for kids and adults alike to get out and celebrate this year’s Disney themed Happiest Homecoming on Earth.

UPDATE: Due to weather concerns, the Pirate Pup Parade will be moved indoors outside of the Black Box Theater at the Brewery Arts Center. The film showing of "Hook" will be held in the BAC Performance Hall. Food Trucks will be outside in the parking lot.

Going into Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2019, we're looking at a slight chance of showers with highs in the upper 60s around the Carson City region. The public is welcome to the first ever "Gandy Dance" to celebrate the Gandy: also known as a railroad maintenance worker. 1800's music by the Pickett's Charge Band, dance lessons, Story Telling, Gandy spiking demonstration, Quilters, finger foods, 1800's games, unique Silent Auction items, train simulator, model Depot Tours and more.

This event supports the Historical Society of Dayton Valley's (HSDV) restoration of the historic 1881 Carson & Colorado Railroad Depot.

Several hundred made their way Wednesday evening to the 9-11 Memorial at Mills Park for a remembrance of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorists attacks on American soil, paying tribute to those who lost their lives with words, song, prayer and hope.
