Summer is a time for ice cream, bike rides, carnivals, and of course, swimming. However, there is a shortage of lifeguards nationwide so extreme that pool programs are in jeopardy of shutting down.

“We are a part of the aquatic community that is suffering right now,” said Mike Freeman, Recreation Program Manager at the Carson City Aquatics Center.

Carson High School senior students have successfully completed their 2019 Senior Projects, a CHS graduation requirement, and they could not have accomplished this without the selfless sacrifice of members of the Carson City community.

Good morning Carson City. Today is Wednesday, March 13, 2019. Many of us woke up to a nice dusting of snow on the grass and around the hillsides. The white stuff won't last very long. While technically not Spring until March 20, a week from today, there's a noticeable warmup ahead, with high temperatures near 60 by Sunday.

UPDATE: The Subaru, Leave No Trace Traveling Trainers will be leading an Awareness Workshop at the Carson City Community Center in the Bonanza Room tonight. Tazmanian Boxing Club in Carson City debuted two youth boxers at a USA Boxing event in Reno recently. Alfredo Carrasco Jr., and Jose Bedoy, got a chance to debut their boxing skills. Both displayed a lot of heart, skill and integrity, according to their trainers.

Hello Carson City and welcome to this first day of the work week, Monday, Feb. 25, 2019. Hang on tight as today will be especially windy, so much so that we are under a High Wind Warning issued by the National Weather Service.

It's a frigid Wednesday night outside, but inside the Tazmanian Boxing Club in Carson City, the gym is packed with children and adults working up a sweat while learning valuable skills.

Were you as surprised as we were Sunday of the lake effect snow storm? Today is a whole new day. Welcome Carson City to Monday, Feb. 18 where all that's left, at least for the next couple days before the next system arrives, is the snow removal. Oh, and it is also President's Day with federal, state and local government offices closed, including schools. Bundle up when headed outside. It is a cold one. Today's high will be in the low 30s.

Recently, SkillsUSA had its Regional Photography Competition, and all five participating CHS students are going to State. SkillsUSA is a career and technical student organization serving more than 395,000 high school, college, and middle school students across the nation in trade training programs and technical and skilled service occupations, including health occupations.

For those weary from all the snow around Carson City so far this month, about the only good news to share is that your weekend is here and there's plenty to do indoors if winter recreation isn't your thing.

From workshops to live music, a skate demo at The WheelHouse and even a special "Caturday Night Out" at the Carson Nugget to help homeless felines in the area, there are places to go around Carson City where you can keep warm, stay dry and have fun!

Carson City's non-profit Tazmanian Boxing and Torres MMA Sports welcomed local fighter Ivan Contreras in King of the Cage on Feb. 9 at Silver Legacy. Contreras won in 1 round in 24 Seconds with TKO by Strike out.
