We can expect showers this morning with some clearing this afternoon. Speaking of NCAA basketball, the 7th ranked Nevada Wolf Pack Men's basketball team will face 10th ranked Florida Gators today, 3:50 p.m.

Meals on Wheels Carson City, a program administered by the Carson City Senior Center, announced today that it will be participating in the 17th annual March for Meals, a month-long, nationwide celebration of Meal on Wheels and our senior neighbors who rely on the vital service to remain healthy and independent at home.

Welcome Carson City as we head into Thursday, March 7, 2019. Enjoy a bowl of hot oatmeal with berries, Honey Nut Cheerios or Cinnamon Toast Crunch because today we celebrate National Cereal Day. What is Kiwanis? Carson City Kiwanis is a group of local individuals who gather together and volunteer for the betterment of Carson City. Carson City Kiwanis was established in 1959 by a group of small business owners. We began our tradition of leadership in community service and monetary donations to organizations who served children, youth, the elderly and the disabled.

Bingo games at the Carson City Senior Center received a boost from a new bingo machine and electronic flash board, thanks to donations from community members and the Kiwanis Club of Sierra Nevada.

In its 34th year of honoring the nation’s best high school athletes, The Gatorade Company has announced Jared Marchegger of Sierra Lutheran High School as its 2018-19 Gatorade Nevada Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year.

Marchegger is the second Gatorade Nevada Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year to be chosen from Sierra Lutheran High School.

For those weary from all the snow around Carson City so far this month, about the only good news to share is that your weekend is here and there's plenty to do indoors if winter recreation isn't your thing.

From workshops to live music, a skate demo at The WheelHouse and even a special "Caturday Night Out" at the Carson Nugget to help homeless felines in the area, there are places to go around Carson City where you can keep warm, stay dry and have fun!

Rosebud's Dance Band and the Kiwanis Club of Carson Valley invite you to attend a Valentine's Dance.

The dance is scheduled for Saturday, February 16, 2019 at the CVIC Hall, 1604 Esmeralda Avenue in Minden.

Doors open at 7 p.m. Music playing from 7:30 to 10 p.m.

Tickets are $10 at the door. Ages 10 and under are free.

There will be a dessert bar, as well as a no-host bar. There will also be a raffle.

Local community members and organizations donated generously to Carson City Senior Center’s Meals on Wheels recipients this holiday season with gifts of personal necessities and nice-to-have items for the area’s senior population.

The Northern Nevada Dream Center, a Carson City based volunteer run, nonprofit organization, is holding its fourth annual Dream Christmas event, a mobile caravan of holiday joy and goodies for those in need.

UPDATE: 6:18PM: Salvation Army Cpt. Mark Cyr has reported 344 turkeys were donated during today's 21st annual Turkey Drop. Monetary donations today amounted to $8,693.

"We're very happy with the results of the drive and the continued support from the community," Cyr said.

The parking lot at the Max Casino, 900 South Carson Street in Carson City, is site of this year's Salvation Army Turkey Drop, going all day Friday until 6 p.m.

The Misfits Theater Group in Dayton is performing "The Arcane Lantern," a comical farce set in old Dayton at the turn of the 20th Century, directed by Cindy Pardini.

Carson City residents turned out in all ages, shapes, fitness and strength spectrums Saturday for the fifth annual Carson City Kiwanis Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day.

The theme of the 30th anniversary year of Dayton Valley Days this Saturday and Sunday is “Community,” celebrating both the 100th year anniversary of the Dayton High School building which has since become a community center, and the community of Dayton Valley as a whole.

Dayton Valley Days returns Sept. 15-16, and this year is celebrating the 100th year anniversary of the old Dayton High School, now known as the Dayton Community Center.

It’s still Welcome Back Week at Western Nevada College; a free BBQ, games, activities, and meet and greet with the new college President will be in Rotary Square at lunchtime. Muscle Powered starts the day with a hike up Kings Canyon Road. In addition to sturdy shoes and water, you’ll want to bring a camera – the views of Eagle Valley are impressive. Start the weekend early with some live music for a good cause. Enjoy Greg Austin on the stage at Living the Good Life: there’s no cover, but a portion of tonight’s food and beverage sales will benefit the Swithwick/Francone family.

Lights, camera, action! The Second annual Jukebox Film Festival begins today at the Carson City Community Center. Two full days of features, documentaries, and short films with music as the uniting theme will be shown at the Carson City Community Center: 30 unique titles representing 29 different filmmakers from countries around the world. Blood Drum Spirit, a jazz band with an African influence, is the focus of one of those films and will be performing for free at Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint this evening.

Registration is now open for the fifth annual Carson City Kiwanis Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day. Founder Robey Willis is encouraging golfers to sign up as soon as possible.

Thank goodness for Thursday. The weekend is just hours away, but there is no reason to wait for the fun to start. Take a stroll with Muscle Powered: today’s hike will wind through the far east side of Carson, from Silver Saddle Ranch to Mexican Dam. Artsy Fartsy Art Galley hosts an artist meet and greet for Catherine King; enjoy a glass of wine while discovering her newest work. Head down the rabbit hole, and you may wind up on McFadden Plaza. The Carson City Classic Cinema Club brings the recent live-action version of Alice in Wonderland to the big screen on the downtown stage.

Looks like another great day to stay indoors. The Carson City Library has several activities planned today, and one of them might be what you’re looking for. Story time this morning is for the little ones. Just about everyone is welcome to participate in their weekly Lego Club build. Families will enjoy movie night; just make sure to register online if you’re planning on seeing Peter Rabbit with them this evening. The Jazz and Beyond Music Festival is in full swing, so you’ll find plenty of music around.

The Washoe Zephyr is a double-sided coin. The breeze is a welcome reprieve from hot summer afternoons and can do wonders clearing the smoke from the valley. On the other hand, that wind does local firefighters no favors if it just helps push the fire line faster. There may be some relief from the bad air today, but you’ll still want to take it easy.

Yeah, it’s hot out there, but it’s the area happenings that are sizzling. The Carson City Fair at Fuji Park offers a plethora of entertainment for all ages including tractor pulls, a carnival, and farm animals. Under the shade of the Mills Park cottonwoods, you’ll have all day to peruse the varied vehicles in the annual Run Whatcha Brung Car Show. The sun will come out tomorrow, but it’s the stars that are coming out tonight for the free Levitt Amp Concert at the Brewery Arts Center.

It almost seems like the weekend is starting early, with all the great times offered today. The Carson City Fair is in full swing and will offer family-friendly fun through Sunday. Movie-lovers of all ages will enjoy tonight’s Movie on the Plaza: Princess Bride. It’s free to attend, but you’ll want to bring your own seating. Carson City's Karson Kruzers car club is revving its engines ahead of the 33rd annual Run What Cha Brung car show featured this Friday at Max Casino and Saturday, July 28 at Mills Park in Carson City.

There is more hot and smoky in store for the day, including a very real threat of thunderstorms. You may want to stick to indoor activities when the air quality is low like this. The Capital City Community Band has a free concert and ice cream social scheduled for this afternoon at the First United Methodist Church. All are welcome, and it’s hard to argue with ice cream on a day like this. If you are looking to start your own business, but still some legal guidance, you’ll find the ‘Lunch-n-Learn’ workshop at the Adams Hub extremely helpful.

With a steady rumble of engines and packed with all the color and chrome of American made classics, Karson Kruzers will host its 33rd "Run What Cha Brug" car show July 27-28 in Carson City.
