3rd Annual Carson City Kiwanis Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day

The Carson City Kiwanis will host it's 3rd Annual Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day. There will many activities including a four person scramble golf tourney with many categories, such as men's teams , women's teams, mixed and senior teams. It's only $75 person and Michael Hohl Motors is donating a vehicle for if a person who get's a hole in one. This event will be held at the Empire Ranch golf course, as will the other events.

Kiwanis of Carson City Tribute to Johnny Cash

The second annual Carson City Kiwanis Johnny Cash Tribute Concert is pulling into the station on August 13, 2016. Jimmie Ray and Cyndi Cantrell and the Black Train will be headlining at Piper’s Opera House for two shows on that day, 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Annual Silver Dollar Car Classic kicks off Thursday

All summer long, Thursday nights have been known for the Silver Dollar Classic Car meet-ups with upwards of 80 vehicles showing off their chrome and fuzzy dice at various venues throughout the valley. This Thursday’s cruise night kicks off a weekend of nostalgic car fun. Head to the Plaza Events Center at 5 p.m. for the annual Cruise Night Show and Shine, Music and Spirits and hold onto your bobby sox.

Kiwanis of Carson City Tribute to Johnny Cash

All money raised will benefit the Kiwanis of Carson City to continue to support seniors and children of Carson City. There are two shows to choose from 1:00 pm and 7:00 pm, tickets are $25.00 each. The Dayton Valley Days Committee invites crafters, vendors and anyone who wants to reach thousands of people to reserve a booth for the 28th annual street festival held in the heart of historic Old Town Dayton.

Sunshine and bright faces moved like a breeze through Carson City’s safest street early Saturday at the 13th annual all-ages Cops and Kids event hosted by the Carson City Sheriff’s Office.

The block party brought children, their parents and grandparents, families and friends for a morning and mid afternoon of refreshments, music, safety demonstrations and games.

An all-ages invitation is extended to the safest street party in Carson City this Saturday at the Carson City Sheriff’s Office.

The 13th annual Cops and Kids is an all-out community gathering where parents and children can participate in games and activities all designed with family, health and safety in mind. The street party spans two blocks and features refreshments, music, safety demonstrations, games and more. It regularly sees at least a thousand or more children in attendance.

The Kiwanis Club just pulled off their big annual Easter Egg Hunt and is always looking for civic minded community members to join: they meet every Thursday at Casino Fandango. Kiwanis Club of Carson City's 38th Annual Easter Egg Hunt

Kiwanis Club of Carson City hosted its 38th Annual Easter Egg Hunt at Centennial Park on Saturday, March 26, 2016. Hundreds of gathers attended this event and took part in the egg hunt. Local country station, KBUL 98.1FM, emceed the event.

Reno Aces mascot, Archie, was on hand for pictures as well as entertainment for the kids. Carson High School's Key Club provided the Easter Bunny for photos. Kiwanis Club of Carson City provided more than twenty volunteers to ensure this event would be successful.

Beloved Carson City Teacher Richard Scott Dies

Richard Scott, a Carson City teacher for 25 years, died Friday, February 19, 2016, of respiratory failure. He was 69. Richard taught English and reading at Eagle Valley Middle School for 23 years. He cared for all of his students and tried to teach them to be thinkers and to relate their emotions to literature. He was active in Boy Scouts, 4-H Guide Dogs for the Blind, Kiwanis, and shooting sports.
He loved fishing and camping. His latest message for his former students is to QUIT SMOKING!

Living the Good Life is a good time with DJ Bobby G's Friday Night Dance Party. West Coast Swing is on the menu at Yaple's Ballroom, and you can learn to do the hustle.

Carson City Kiwanis golf tournament, run and bench press to support cancer awareness

Robey Willis, founder of the Carson City Kiwanis Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day, urged participants to sign up early for this year’s golf tournament and other events.

“The golf tournament completely sold out last year,” he said. “It would be prudent for people to get in while they can.”

The second annual Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day will feature a 5K walk/run, bench press competition and golf tournament, on Sept. 19 at Empire Ranch Golf Course. Willis said last year’s event was a success.

“We had a wonderful time,” he said. “It was just a ball.”

On behalf of Kiwanis of Sierra Nevada and Sunset Rotary; a big thank you to all of our local merchants and individuals who donated items for our raffle and silent auction for our Sierra Therapeutic Equestrian Program Fundraiser.

Thursday, August 20: Things to do in Carson City

The mood has been somber in Carson City this week. The news of Sheriff Deputy Carl Howell’s shooting death has rallied the community, beginning with a large candlelight vigil held last Saturday at the Capitol. Today the officer will be laid to rest after a funeral service at the Reno Convention Center. A procession will leave the Carson City Courthouse at 9 a.m. and travel north along Carson Street. Various fundraisers have begun for the wife and four children that Howell leaves behind. For more information on the procession and how to donate, please go here and here.

Jimmie Ray’s Black Train – A Tribute to Johnny and June, Trains, America and some friends – A Musical Journey Back in Time – The Man, The Music, The Memories - Is coming to the Piper’s Opera House for the third year; this time as part of a fund raiser for the Kiwanis Club. Theater.

This show is designed to more than a concert but an experience. In 2003 the world has lost both American roots legends, Johnny Cash and the beloved June Carter Cash.

Hot rod enthusiasts gather in Carson City's Mills Park for Silver Dollar Car Classic

Classic cars had their dust brushed off, their paint polished and their engines revved for the Silver Dollar Car Classic in Carson City's Mills Park Saturday. The car show kicked off with a Kiwanis pancake breakfast and was followed by a Show 'n Shine, music, vendors and judging. Judging concludes at 4 p.m. with the show returning Sunday at 8 a.m. with breakfast, poker runs, a barbecue and award ceremony.

Silver Dollar Car Classic this weekend in Carson City, Hot August Nights in Virginia City

Classic car enthusiasts from Carson City to Virginia City will rev up their engines this weekend for two annual events: The Silver Dollar Car Classic and the Virginia City kickoff to Hot August Nights.

Festivities in Carson City begin Friday at Max Casino, formerly Carson Station, with a street dance, show and shine beginning at 6 p.m. The car show then moves to Mills Park for the weekend.
