Carson City Kiwanis is Serving Breakfast to Raise Money for Scholarships
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Thu, 09/19/2019 - 12:05pmCarson City Kiwanis is serving short stacks for a tall cause at the Carson City Applebee’s on Oct. 5, 2019 from 8 to 10 a.m. The entire proceeds of this event will support the Ralph Denny Memorial Scholarship that awards a one-time $750 scholarship to a local high school graduate each school year. Originally named the Carson City Kiwanis Annual Scholarship, it was renamed following the passing of long-time Kiwanis member, Ralph Denny.
Carson City Kiwanis hosts Saturday pancreatic cancer awareness run, golf tourney and bench press
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Wed, 09/18/2019 - 12:52pmEach September for the past five years, Carson City Kiwanis has been making it their duty to fundraise and bring awareness to pancreatic cancer. This year, to that end, they’ll be hosting the 6th annual Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day event on Saturday, Sept. 21.
The fundraiser will offer three events to further the cause: a golf tournament hosted by the Silver Oak Golf Course, a pancreatic cancer walk/run, and a bench press championship competition.

Signups underway for 6th annual Carson City Kiwanis Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Run
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Mon, 09/09/2019 - 1:33pmThe 6th Annual Kiwanis Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Run will take place on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2019. Proceeds from the event will support Pancreatic Cancer Research and local academic scholarships.
There are three walk/run events this year. There is a 2-Mile walk/run, an 8K event, and a 1-Mile walk/run for kids 12 and under.

This event is the last and largest of the events hosted by Carson City Kiwanis during their Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day activities. This event has sold out each year. The reason: all proceeds support Pancreatic Cancer research and scholarships to local high school graduates.

Senator Square: First week of school a blast at Carson High School

In fact, counselors, teachers, and other administrators stood at each of the school entrances welcoming students to the best high school in the state, hyperbole aside.

Among events for the day, there will be a wreath remembrance ceremony for fallen Carson City law enforcement officers at the sheriff's office, a Muscle Powered morning hike, art showings, and a meeting of the Status of Women in Nevada group at the Carson Nugget. As part of the Jazz and Beyond music festival, there will be an outdoor "Woodstock Remembered" concert at Comma Coffee and a music presentation, "All About that Bass" by Scot Marshall and Friends at the Nevada State Museum.

Carson City Kiwanis moves weekly meetings to The Martin Hotel
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Mon, 06/10/2019 - 1:50pmCarson City Kiwanis moved its weekly meeting to The Martin Hotel. The decision to move was not a difficult one as The Martin Inn has an excellent meeting facility located in the back of its restaurant.
Carson City Kiwanis members are excited about the move as the room is large enough to grow, invite guests, and be able to stay in downtown Carson City. As Carson City Kiwanis celebrates its 60-year anniversary, it looks to continue to be a great service club in this great community.

Kiwanis Club of Sierra Nevada picks up 23 lbs of 'micro trash' during first Adopt-a-Trail program
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Fri, 05/17/2019 - 7:11amOn May 11th the Kiwanis Club of Sierra Nevada completed their first Adopt-A-Trail clean-up at Carson River Park.
The group walked from the parking lot to the fishing pier, focusing on micro trash along the trail and in the parking lot.
They picked up 23 pounds of trash. The Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space department would like to thank the Kiwanis Club of Sierra Nevada for participating in the Adopt-A-Trail program and completing their first clean-up!
A big thank you goes out to Grapplers INC for donating new Grapplers to the volunteer program for volunteers to use.

The following is from the Sheriff's Office: Due to anticipated cold, wet, windy weather conditions Carson City Sheriff’s Office regrets to inform the community of the cancellation of the Cops and Kids Safe Streets Party which was scheduled for Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. According to the National Weather Service a slight chance of showers and potential for wind is predicted. Unfavorable weather conditions may cause significant disruption in the planned outdoor activities. The event cannot be relocated indoors as accommodations are limited. Staff of the Carson City Sheriff’s Office wishes to thank those interested in attending and appreciates the community’s support.

The 16th annual Cops and Kids Safe Streets Party, hosted by the Carson City Sheriff's Office, will be held Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sheriff’s Office administration building, 911 East Musser Street.
Public safety, awareness and community are at the center of this popular annual spring event where the theme is “Cops and Kids: Where the Community and Law Enforcement Come Together.”

Kiwanis of Carson City hosts pasta feed Saturday to benefit Meals on Wheels

Tickets are $6, and include pasta, garlic bread, salad, beverage and dessert. Kids under 5 eat free.
