Carson City Kiwanis is serving short stacks for a tall cause at the Carson City Applebee’s on Oct. 5, 2019 from 8 to 10 a.m. The entire proceeds of this event will support the Ralph Denny Memorial Scholarship that awards a one-time $750 scholarship to a local high school graduate each school year. Originally named the Carson City Kiwanis Annual Scholarship, it was renamed following the passing of long-time Kiwanis member, Ralph Denny.

Each September for the past five years, Carson City Kiwanis has been making it their duty to fundraise and bring awareness to pancreatic cancer. This year, to that end, they’ll be hosting the 6th annual Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day event on Saturday, Sept. 21.

The fundraiser will offer three events to further the cause: a golf tournament hosted by the Silver Oak Golf Course, a pancreatic cancer walk/run, and a bench press championship competition.

Heading into Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019, events around the capital city region include a morning hike at Lake Tahoe, a Healthy Communities meeting in Virginia City, a cross-country convoy of vintage military vehicles that will make a stopover at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, activities at the Carson City Library, book author presentations at the Nevada State Library and Archives and the Brewery Arts Center, food trucks at Mills Park and more. The 6th Annual Kiwanis Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Run will take place on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2019. Proceeds from the event will support Pancreatic Cancer Research and local academic scholarships.

There are three walk/run events this year. There is a 2-Mile walk/run, an 8K event, and a 1-Mile walk/run for kids 12 and under.

The 6th Annual Carson City Kiwanis Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Golf Tournament will take place at the beautiful Silver Oak Golf Course in Carson City. Tee time begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2019.

This event is the last and largest of the events hosted by Carson City Kiwanis during their Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day activities. This event has sold out each year. The reason: all proceeds support Pancreatic Cancer research and scholarships to local high school graduates.

Moving into Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019, there's another chance for thunderstorms headed our way and then a bit of a cool down going into the weekend. Looking around the capital city Thursday there's a meeting of the Carson City Board of Supervisors, auditions for V&T Railway's Polar Express, art showings, a host of activities at the Carson City Library, a Muscle Powered morning hike and more.

Heading into Thursday, August 29, 2019 and we're ready and due for the upcoming three-day holiday weekend ahead. Looking around the Carson City area for Thursday there's art showings, a Muscle Powered hike, a Partnership Carson City training and lunch and then a vigil to recognize and prevent opioid overdose and more.

Carson High School Principal Gavin Ward stood at the north entrance high-fiving students as they entered high school, some of them for the first time. In fact, counselors, teachers, and other administrators stood at each of the school entrances welcoming students to the best high school in the state, hyperbole aside.

Coming up on Thursday, August 22, 2019, we can expect continued sunny skies with a daytime near 90. Among upcoming events: Thursday is the final day of the Jukebox International Film Festival at the Carson City Community Center. Take in a film screening and talk to the filmmakers who made them. There's a Polka Dot Powerhouse Carson City lunch connect at Red's Old 395 Grill, plus Food Truck Thursday at Mills Park and a volunteer expo hosted by Leadership Douglas County. There's also a discussion about aviation history and trends at the Nevada State Museum, a Carson City GOP information meeting on Block Chain technology, Jazz and Beyond music festival events and more. Heading into Thursday, August 15, 2019 we can expect hot weather to continue with high temperatures near 100. Among events for the day, there will be a wreath remembrance ceremony for fallen Carson City law enforcement officers at the sheriff's office, a Muscle Powered morning hike, art showings, and a meeting of the Status of Women in Nevada group at the Carson Nugget. As part of the Jazz and Beyond music festival, there will be an outdoor "Woodstock Remembered" concert at Comma Coffee and a music presentation, "All About that Bass" by Scot Marshall and Friends at the Nevada State Museum.

We're rounding the corner to the weekend as we head into Thursday, August 8, 2019. Events lined up include a morning hike with Muscle Powered to Marlette Lake, Food Truck Thursday at Mills Park, art showings, library events more. Hug your kids. Enjoy the day.

Karson Kruzers will host its 34th "Run What Cha Brung" car show beginning Friday, July 26 at Max Casino in Carson City with events the following day at Mills Park.

Carson City Kiwanis will host its 6th Annual Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day event to raise much needed funds for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network as well as the Marilyn Elaine Academic Scholarship.

The Fourth of July will be colored with parades, barbecues, carnivals, concerts and plenty of fireworks around Carson City, Carson Valley, Lake Tahoe and Virginia City.

Sierra Nevada Kiwanis Presents Star Spangled Bingo, July 4th, 2019 at the Carson City Senior Center. Doors open at 10 a.m., Bingo starts at noon. Sierra Nevada Kiwanis will be grilling burgers and hot dogs.

Hello Carson City. It is Thursday, June 13, 2019. After last night's thunderstorms that shook around the capital city we're looking at plenty of sunshine today with a daytime high around 86. Activities lined up include workshops, an anniversary party and showing at Artsy Fartsy art gallery, Food Truck Thursday at Mills Park, a Kiwanis Club meeting and Chamber annual meeting at The Martin Hotel, Cruise Night at Bully's Sports Bar, live music outdoors at Living the Good Life and more. Carson City Kiwanis moved its weekly meeting to The Martin Hotel. The decision to move was not a difficult one as The Martin Inn has an excellent meeting facility located in the back of its restaurant.

Carson City Kiwanis members are excited about the move as the room is large enough to grow, invite guests, and be able to stay in downtown Carson City. As Carson City Kiwanis celebrates its 60-year anniversary, it looks to continue to be a great service club in this great community.

The Old West Trio returns to the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park this coming week in an evening concert, while two local musicians are featured at the park’s upcoming Neighbor Fair, an event highlighting Carson Valley’s non-profit organizations.

On May 11th the Kiwanis Club of Sierra Nevada completed their first Adopt-A-Trail clean-up at Carson River Park.

The group walked from the parking lot to the fishing pier, focusing on micro trash along the trail and in the parking lot.

They picked up 23 pounds of trash. The Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space department would like to thank the Kiwanis Club of Sierra Nevada for participating in the Adopt-A-Trail program and completing their first clean-up!

A big thank you goes out to Grapplers INC for donating new Grapplers to the volunteer program for volunteers to use.

Unfavorable weather conditions may cause significant disruption in the planned outdoor activities. The event cannot be relocated indoors as accommodations are limited. Staff of the Carson City Sheriff’s Office wishes to thank those interested in attending and appreciates the community’s support.

The 16th annual Cops and Kids Safe Streets Party, hosted by the Carson City Sheriff's Office, will be held Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sheriff’s Office administration building, 911 East Musser Street.

Public safety, awareness and community are at the center of this popular annual spring event where the theme is “Cops and Kids: Where the Community and Law Enforcement Come Together.”

The Kiwanis Club of Carson City is hosting its annual Pasta Feed to benefit Meals on Wheels Carson City this Saturday, April 13, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive.

Tickets are $6, and include pasta, garlic bread, salad, beverage and dessert. Kids under 5 eat free.

Headed into Thursday, April 11, 2019 we welcome Carson City to another day where weather forecasters say there's a chance of rain and maybe even a few snow showers mixed in. Beyond the weather we're looking at a blockbuster day and night filled will activities throughout town. From library presentations, a TV show casting call at the Carson Nugget, an afternoon hike, to a train history presentation, a book signing at the Brewery Arts Center, a CHS theater performance and the Carson City movie screening premier of "The Mustang" filmed at the historic Nevada State Prison, there's something for everyone.
