ZOMBIE HALLOWEEN MAKE UP CLASS at Salon Tart

Halloween is creeping upon us and its time to start thinking about what your going to dress up as for those spooky events. Our resident zombie lover Lindsey will be teaching a zombie and wound special effects class. Class will teach basic skills that can be recreated at home.

High Sierra Swing Dance Club presents its annual Halloween costume ball 7-10:30 p.m. on Oct. 19 at the Brewery Arts Center’s Grand Ballroom, 449 W. King St., Carson City. Tiffany Hopkins will teach an intermediate nightclub two-step lesson at 7 p.m. Costumes are optional, but there will be prizes for best holiday attire in four categories. Partners are not required. Social dance is 8-10:30 p.m. Lesson $7 for HSSDC and any swing dance club members or $10 for nonmembers; dance $7 for members of swing clubs and $10 for nonmembers.

V&T Halloween Spirit Train: A fundraiser to help cancer patients and their caregivers

Take part in a special evening of historic trains, spirits (beer, wine), music, and special treats for adults 21 years of age and older to help local cancer patients and their caregivers.

The non-profit foundation, Empowered Lives through the Cancer Journey, housed at the Sierra Nevada Cancer Center, is hosting this adults-only fundraising event – an evening of Halloween fun and gaiety. The event is scheduled for October 19, 2013 at 5 p.m., at the V&T Railroad, F Street Station in Virginia City.

State authorities tracking sex offenders during October report making no arrests

Operation Scarecrow, a multi-jurisdiction law enforcement task force designed to keep watch on convicted sex offenders during Halloween, reports that it did not make any arrests.
Officers from the Nevada Department of Public Safety – Division of Parole and Probation made a total of 112 home contacts and 35 surveillances of supervised sex offenders in the Carson City and Northern Nevada.

Carson City authorities arrest woman on hit and run, DUI and reckless driving charges

A 23-year-old Dana Point, Calif. woman was arrested Halloween night in Carson City and faces misdemeanor charges of hit and run, reckless driving, marijuana possession and driving under the influence after she allegedly hit a pickup and took off at a high rate of speed through a residential area.

The 3,000 bags of Halloween candy that Gov. Brian Sandoval handed out Wednesday night to trick-or-treaters at the Governor's Mansion in Carson City weren't Snickers or M&Ms or something made in Hershey, Pa.

Along with neighborhood trick or treating, a handful of Halloween events are lined up for Wednesday including A Halloween Festival planned at Carson Mall. Costumed kids, face painting, games, prizes, snacks and more are featured from 1 to 5:30 p.m. Parents and children can then move on to the Governor's Mansion for an annual Halloween meet and greet, trick or treat.

Kids have a greater chance of being fatally injured by a car on Halloween than any other day of the year, including the Fourth of July and New Year’s Day. State Farm®, the nation’s leading auto insurer, teamed up with research expert, Bert Sperling of Sperling’s BestPlaces, to better understand the risk kids face as they take to the streets in search of treats. Sperling’s BestPlaces analyzed more than four million records in the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) from 1990 – 2010 for children 0-18 years of age on October 31.

Nevada Day events continue Sunday at Mills Park and Legislative Mall with free concert

Nevada Day festivities continue in Carson City through Sunday, today, with the RSVP Carnival and the Battle Born Celebration at Mills Park, a free symphony concert at the Legislative Mall and Halloween festivities.
The salute to America's military "past, present and future" is the theme of this year's statehood events. Featured at the park is the traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall, living history re-enactments, tributes and military honors and static displays. Go here for more information.

State and local authorities on the lookout for sex predators during Halloween

The Nevada Department of Public Safety, Division of Parole and Probation and Carson City authorities have again launched Operation Scarecrow, a program eight years running that targets sex offenders and predators during Halloween.

Operation Scarecrow's purpose is to ensure there is no contact between division supervised sex offenders and children. Law enforcement will provide enhanced community supervision and give specific direction to high risk and high profile sex offenders, said DPS Spokeswman Gail Powell.

Halloween train ride aboard V&T to raise money for cancer patients and caregivers

Halloween Spending Expected To Total $118 Million In Nevada, Up 10.4 Percent Over 2011

CARSON CITY – Goblins and ghosts are expected to be good for business in Nevada this Halloween.

The Retail Association of Nevada (RAN) reported today that Silver State residents will spend $118 million on Halloween-related merchandise this month if national trends hold true locally.

Nevada Records Two Straight Years Of Taxable Sales Increases With 7.9 Percent Gain In June

CARSON CITY – Nevada recorded two straight years of increases in taxable sales through June, with a statewide gain of 7.9 percent over June 2011, the state Department of Taxation reported today.

Taxable sales totaled $3.9 billion in June compared to $3.6 billion in June 2011. For the 2012 fiscal year, taxable sales rose 7.6 percent over 2011.

Clark County taxable sales were up 8.9 percent in June and Washoe County saw a 3 percent gain.

Movie Review: 'Parnormal Activity Three' film falls short of wanted Halloween chills
