The Class of 2020-2021, while practicing social distancing and wearing the latest fashion in face masks, gathered together at 6:00 a.m. Sept. 4 on the bleachers of the CHS football field to watch their sun rise.

Jim Sapien is the 2020 Sunday Men’s Club champion at Silver Oak Golf Course in Carson City. Sapien fired a 74-75 to best Dan Wilson by four strokes (77-76) during the two-day club championship Aug. 22-23. Brian Sweet (74-80) and Michael Moriarty (79-75) tied for third, while Scott Lusty was the low net (after handicap is applied) champion over the field with 141.

City of Sparks announces passing of Mayor Ron Smith

After an almost two-year battle with pancreatic cancer, Sparks Mayor Ron Smith has died. He was 71 years old.

Mayor Smith was officially sworn in as the 25th Mayor of Sparks on November 13, 2018. He was elected to the Sparks City Council in November 2006 and was re-elected to four-year terms in 2008, 2012 and 2016. He served as Sparks Mayor Pro Tempore from 2012-2018.

The Carson City Jazz and Beyond Music and Art Festival is taking a new direction in response to the coronavirus pandemic. The festival was founded in 2004. This is the first year in which gathering of large crowds at musical events has been restricted due to health concerns.

Project along US 50 Spooner begins wrap-up, single lane closures start Thursday

CARSON CITY — Single lane closures will take place on U.S. 50 between Carson City and Spooner summit beginning July 30 as the Nevada Department of Transportation wraps up a project to reduce roadside erosion and help preserve water quality.

Nevada high school fall sports will be moved to March, amongst other scheduling changes

Fall high school sports are now temporarily postponed in Carson City, Lyon, Douglas and Storey counties as well as the rest of Nevada. State playoffs are not expected to take place this year, as well. The Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association announced Thursday that all fall sports in Nevada will be played in March of 2021 to lower the spread of COVID-19.

Carson City man sprayed in face with pepper by unknown assailant, jailed on warrant

A man was arrested Monday for a misdemeanor warrant after Carson City sheriff's deputies investigated an incident in which he had been pepper sprayed in the face by a person he had an altercation with near the Carson Aquatic Facility.

Genoa Lakes Ladies' Golf Club President's Cup tournament results

The annual Genoa Lakes Ladies’ Golf Club President’s Cup tournament took place July 14 and July 16 at the Genoa Lakes Golf Club Ranch and Lake courses. Thirty members competed in the two-day net tournament. Jeri Mihelic won the tournament with a net score of 142. Gail Teig was the runner-up with a score of 143 and Terri Ianiro was the 3rd place winner with a score of 147.
