The Waterfall Trailhead parking area, located at the end of King Street in Carson City, will be temporarily closed starting Monday, April 2.

CARSON CITY – The Division of Insurance is warning Nevada consumers to be on the lookout for flood-damaged vehicles when considering purchasing a car in Nevada. Even though it has been several months since Hurricanes Irma and Harvey devastated Texas and Florida, there were thousands of vehicles that were damaged in the two storms. Some of these vehicles may be making their way to Nevada.

Flood Insurance is one of those things you might not think about- until you're knee deep in muddy water in your living room. At that point, it's too late. You're left with moldy furniture, ruined flooring, and probably a big replacement cost. You're not alone though. 87% of homeowners don't have a flood insurance policy.

Misconception #1: You don't need flood insurance unless you live in a flood-prone area. Not true. Your property may be at risk. Heavy rainfall, melting snow and floods happen more often and in more parts of the country than you think.

CARSON CITY, Nev. -- Late summer and early fall brings more than just warming and cooling temperatures in Nevada. It also brings increased flood risks. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Nevada Division of Emergency Management advise the residents of Northern Nevada to get prepared — well ahead of rising waters.

Night in the Country officials announced Tuesday they will be changing the camper ingress and egress due to flood damage on Miller Lane in Yerington, Nev. West Goldfield Avenue will now be the main access to the campground entrances. The venue was not damaged during the flooding.

Almost two months of closure came to an end Saturday as the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City reopened to the public following water damage caused by January flooding.

Caltrans is advising motorists to expect delays on U.S. Highway 50 in El Dorado County for emergency repair work in three locations.

The latest atmospheric river system having moved out of the area late Friday afternoon, the Carson City Emergency Operations Center (EOC) has closed its operation, a press release from the Municipality of Carson City said.

CARSON CITY — Due to flooding that occurred this morning, a 100-foot section of Combs Canyon Road, an 1/8 of a mile south of the Lakeview Road intersection will be closed to one lane of travel.

CARSON CITY, Nev. – The Nevada Department of Transportation has reopened State Route 342 in the Virginia City and Gold Hill area following damage from last week’s flood.

Another round of precipitation is forecast to arrive in Northwestern Nevada starting Wednesday, the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno reports, and last at least through Saturday with a chance of rain or snow showers.

CARSON CITY, Nev. – In just the first days after several northwestern Nevada state roads were damaged by flooding, the Nevada Department of Transportation has let out emergency contracts and contractors are already being dispatched to repair erosion and other flood-related roadway damage. The repairs follow tours of the damage taken by Governor Sandoval and local officials both before and after the flood.

Major flooding from run-off west of Curry Street in South Carson City has resulted in some damage to the Nevada State Railroad Museum property, said NSRM Curator of History Wendell Huffman.

The Carson City Emergency Operations Center will close its operation at approximately 5 p.m. today. Damage assessment teams will continue their work through the week.
The National Weather Service states that snow is expected later tonight in the Carson City area, with the possibility of periods of heavy snow. We encourage drivers to exercise caution as road conditions can become dangerous.

One lane of Highway 395 northbound has reopened at Stephanie. Southbound is still closed.

UPDATE 2:45PM: Both the northbound and southbound lanes on Highway 395 are closed due to flooding along the Cradlebaugh Bridge in Carson Valley, said Carson City Undersheriff Steve Albertsen. Southbound Highway 395 motorists are advised to take Jacks Valley Road and connect to Foothill Road. The Nevada Highway Patrol is turning people around at the RV park, he said.

Cradlebaugh Bridge near Stephanie Way in Carson Valley is beginning to flood into the southbound lanes of Highway 395. Traffic controls on Highway 395 are in effect and a portion of the road is now closed.

Douglas County will host a Flood Outreach on August 6 from 3:30-7 p.m. in the CVIC Hall, Minden. The event will give the public the opportunity to collect information, provide public input, and view flood damage maps.

Douglas County Emergency Management is currently working on managing the current flooding in the Stephanie and Johnson Lane areas of Douglas County.

The State Damage Assessment Teams came out to the affected areas Thursday to determine the amount of damage to public infrastructure as well as attempting to determine private property damage following state and FEMA damage assessment criteria. Douglas County hopes to have this report completed as soon as possible.

Douglas County Emergency Management received notification from State Emergency Management officials that the flash floods events in July and August 2014 did not qualify for state or federal assistance.

My wife and I were on the fence about whether or not to purchase the downtown building at 716 North Carson, previously known as Washington Street Station. After all, the building was more than half empty and had not attracted a new tenant in five years.

A bank had repossessed the building two years previously and had been unable to sell it even as it gradually cut the initial listing price almost in half. And to top things off, the building had extensive water damage throughout caused by a leaky roof, and the few tenants it did have were unhappy with conditions.

A mountain is being destroyed, and the neighborhood below it is being polluted by off-road vehicles in Douglas County.
Hot Springs Mountain is on BLM land, and it towers right above the neighborhood known as Johnson Lane.
The mountain has been cut up by a web of trails created by off-road vehicles.
Heavy use of the trails pulverizes the soil and the trails become loose and unable to support even foot traffic yet alone the vehicle traffic. The off-road operators then cut new (bypass) trails. Ultimately the new trails get pulverized and the process starts again.
