Eyes on Carson City: All board for Memorial Day weekend
Historic steam engines from the V&T Railway and the Nevada State Railroad Museum (NSRM) were awakened from their long winter slumber Saturday morning to mark the start of Carson City's summer season on the rails.
The V&T left its depot at 10 a.m. this morning, bound for the Comstock and Virginia City. It then returned to the Eastgate Depot off Flint Drive in Carson City later in the afternoon.
At the NSRM in South Carson City, Memorial Day weekend was more than just the start of summer.
Flood damage from January storms caused the property shut down for two months while crews made repairs. Saturday was the grand reopening of the museum, its grounds and artifacts for full public enjoyment.
Historic V&T Engine No. 25 pulled passengers around the property, while the smaller Glennbrook engine gave short rides to guests with up close demonstrations of the cab.
Trains will be running all weekend long through Memorial Day on Monday.
The NSRM is open 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursdays through Mondays. Admission is $6 for adults. Children 18 and under are free. Go here for more information. Like the NSRM on Facebook here.
The V&T Railway departs the Eastgate Depot again Sunday morning at 10 a.m. bound for Virginia City. It leaves the Comstock around 3 p.m. bound on its return trip to Carson City.
