Nothing compares to the Nevada Day Show at the NAA Art Gallery where we generally receive well over 100 entries. This show features work that reflects the spirit of Nevada and beyond.

Many of our shows are specific to our members, however, this one is open to artists from the community at large. If you are interested in showing your artwork and/or photography at this judged show please plan to bring your work to the gallery on Saturday, October 19th, anytime from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

In this week's edition of It's Your City, host Cortney Bloomer sits down with Rhonda Abend from Carson City Classic Cinema Club to talk about classic films, tonight's showing of "Charade" and her weekly radio show about films.

Be it classic films or current local films, the club, also known as C5, is committed to bringing Carson City movie entertainment. Its regular schedule of classic films is shown on the first Tuesday of every month at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 W. King Street.

Joe D’Angelo says he has spent the majority his life helping people. After several failed attempts to bring large-scale community projects to different cities in Nevada, he has now set his sights on Carson City to make his “Joshua’s Community” dreams come to life with the purchase of the Ormsby House. 

Heading into the weekend, there’s a mountain of jam-packed activities over the next three days. Events include the 100th annual Candy Dance in Genoa, the Carson City Community Center Garage Sale, free walks at Nevada State Parks, Virginia City’s Street Vibrations Fall Rally, the 31st annual All-Breed Dog Shows, The Beatles Flashback tribute band concert and much more!

The Carson City Senior Center is hosting a jewelry sale benefiting Meals On Wheels Carson City on Thursday, Sept. 26, and Friday, Sept. 27 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the lobby of the senior center at 911 Beverly Drive. The two-day sale is open to the public and features gently used jewelry items donated from the community.

Join Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space this Saturday, Sept. 28 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for the "North Carson Geology Hike: Tales of Fire & Water."

Hikers will be able to join local geologist Tom Gray in exploring the geologic features found in Goni Canyon.

Nevada Humanities presents a new exhibition, Imagine Nevada: Nevada Artists and Poets Celebrate 10 Years of Illustrated Word Exhibitions, on October 3, 2019 in partnership with the Las Vegas Book Festival.

Imagine Nevada, which will be on display at the Nevada Humanities Program Gallery in Las Vegas from October 3 – November 26, 2019, brings Nevada artists and poets together to collaborate on works that articulate the Las Vegas experience.

As we make our way to Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2019, events around the capital city include a job fair at the Carson Nugget, a morning walk, evening hike and a bike ride with Muscle Powered, a Relay for Life fundraiser at Firehouse Subs, a Fat Tuesday business networking event, Culinary Traveler’s Club at Bleu Cafe and more.

Pumpkins plus Bingo = PINGO! Join us Saturday, Oct. 12 for two lively, all ages Bingo sessions to win pumpkins and more. The event is at Carson Valley United Methodist Church, 1375 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville.

The even features two sessions: 1 to 3 p.m. Doors open at noon, and the second session is 4 to 6 p.m., Doors open 3 p.m.

The Nevada Housing Division will celebrate the fifth year of its rental housing locator at a relaunch party to introduce a new look and easier navigation of the NVHousingSearch.org website. The event will be held Thursday, Sept. 26 at the NHD office located at 1830 College Parkway, Suite 200 in Carson City beginning at 11 a.m.

Come one, come all and help the Carson City, Douglas County Relay for Life Team kick off the 2019 fundraising efforts by joining us for an UP, UP AND AWAY tethered Hot Air Balloon Ride!

Meet us on Saturday September 28th. We will be at the lower parking lot at the WalMart on Topsy Lane from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. The cost is $5 per person with proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.

Hot rods, rat rods, souped up trucks and the men and women who made them will be making their way into the capital city this week for the annual Rockabilly Riot which begins Thursday and runs through Saturday at Mills Park.

Hello Carson City! I’ve been a little out of pocket since Burning Man. I have three sicknesses just pile on: playa lung, a head cold, and I wrapped the whole thing up with bronchitis. Doing life sick was pretty hard. But I found it was made possible by the number of times businesses in this area stepped up and said yes.

On Saturday, Sept. 28, at 10 a.m., the final event of the 2019 Festival season features members of the 1962 graduating class of Douglas High School sharing their memories of Carson Valley in the 1950s and 1960s.

Carson Valley has always been a unique, close-knit community. Of the original thirty-five graduating students, twenty-one are still living, many of whom have remained in Carson Valley.

Dozens of hot rods will roll into Carson City next week for the 9th annual Rockabilly Riot held at Mills Park. The event originally got its start in Reno but will be hosted for the 4th time here in Carson City.

Heading into Monday, Sept. 9, 2019 we're looking at the cooling trend to continue with mostly sunny skies and a daytime high in the mid-70s. Want to volunteer at the Nevada State Museum? There's training Monday and Tuesday for those interested. Other activities to get your first day of the work week going include art showings, West Coast swing dancing, and a presentation of the Eureka & Palisade Railroad at the Nevada State Railroad Museum. Heading into the weekend, there’s plenty of activities around the Carson City region to help the next three days breeze by. Events include an artists fair at Carson Mall, the 60th annual camel and ostrich races in Virginia City, a memorial run in Carson City, the 28th annual Oktoberfest in Gardnerville, a Veterans Resource Fair at Carson Nugget, history walks at Mormon Station Park, live comedy and more.

For 60 years, camels, ostriches and even zebras have come to Virginia City for the annual International Camel & Ostrich Races. This hilarious annual tradition dates back to the 1950s, and features jockeys precariously perched on their beasts as they maneuver the track at high speeds, aiming for a win among the cheering audience in this historic mining town.

CARSON CITY — The Silver State Health Insurance Exchange, Nevada’s state agency that helps individuals obtain budget-appropriate health coverage through the online marketplace, Nevada Health Link, announces that starting Wednesday, consumers who previously purchased qualified health plans on HealthCare.gov can claim their migrated accounts on Nevada’s new state-based website, Nevada Health Link.

This is the first step enrollees should take to ensure their account is ready for open enrollment beginning on Nov. 1, 2019.

Nevada Raider Nation, Carson City Chapter will host an Oakland Raiders Game Watch Monday, Sept. 9 at 7 p.m., at Jimmy G's in Carson City.

The season opener features our Oakland Raiders vs the Denver Broncos. Membership applications to the Chapter will be available for new members or returning members. Membership fee is $20 per person.

RENO — As fire hazard has built through the summer, ALERTWildfire, a network of mountaintop cameras that helps fire managers spot and monitor fires over large swaths of land, has been on a frenzied pace to reach its goal of adding 300 cameras to the network in the western U.S. by the end of the year. In the past three years the network has been involved with nearly 1,000 fires.

CARSON CITY — As part of its mission to foster a “greener” Nevada, the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection’s Recycling Program is excited to partner with The Venetian Resort Las Vegas to promote awareness about the importance of recycling through this year’s “Wearable Recyclables” statewide art contest.

The Tahoe Basin is bear country and natural resource and law enforcement agencies are working diligently to remind residents and visitors to practice proper food storage and trash disposal when living in or visiting bear country. To help spread our message, we’ve launched a new website, TahoeBears.org, where residents and visitors can go to learn everything they need to know about living, visiting and playing responsibly in bear country.

Heading into Thursday, August 29, 2019 and we're ready and due for the upcoming three-day holiday weekend ahead. Looking around the Carson City area for Thursday there's art showings, a Muscle Powered hike, a Partnership Carson City training and lunch and then a vigil to recognize and prevent opioid overdose and more.

The Levitt AMP concerts are over but Wheeled Food Wednesdays are still rolling through each week to the Brewery Art Center to bring great food to the Carson City community. Wheeled Food Wednesday takes place on the BAC campus parking lot, 511 West King Street from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
