The Nevada Artist Association Art Gallery Calls for Artists to feature in Nevada Day Show

Nothing compares to the Nevada Day Show at the NAA Art Gallery where we generally receive well over 100 entries. This show features work that reflects the spirit of Nevada and beyond.

Many of our shows are specific to our members, however, this one is open to artists from the community at large. If you are interested in showing your artwork and/or photography at this judged show please plan to bring your work to the gallery on Saturday, October 19th, anytime from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Radio Meets Film on It's Your City featuring Carson City Classic Cinema Club

In this week's edition of It's Your City, host Cortney Bloomer sits down with Rhonda Abend from Carson City Classic Cinema Club to talk about classic films, tonight's showing of "Charade" and her weekly radio show about films.

Be it classic films or current local films, the club, also known as C5, is committed to bringing Carson City movie entertainment. Its regular schedule of classic films is shown on the first Tuesday of every month at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 W. King Street.

Carson City Senior Center hosts jewelry sale to benefit Meals On Wheels

The Carson City Senior Center is hosting a jewelry sale benefiting Meals On Wheels Carson City on Thursday, Sept. 26, and Friday, Sept. 27 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the lobby of the senior center at 911 Beverly Drive. The two-day sale is open to the public and features gently used jewelry items donated from the community.

Carson City Parks and Recreation to host 'Tales of Fire and Water' hike up Goni Canyon

Join Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space this Saturday, Sept. 28 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for the "North Carson Geology Hike: Tales of Fire & Water."

Hikers will be able to join local geologist Tom Gray in exploring the geologic features found in Goni Canyon.

Imagine Nevada Exhibition Opens Oct. 3 at Nevada Humanities Program Gallery

Nevada Housing Division rental housing locator website gets new look, better search tools

The Nevada Housing Division will celebrate the fifth year of its rental housing locator at a relaunch party to introduce a new look and easier navigation of the NVHousingSearch.org website. The event will be held Thursday, Sept. 26 at the NHD office located at 1830 College Parkway, Suite 200 in Carson City beginning at 11 a.m.

Meet us on Saturday September 28th. We will be at the lower parking lot at the WalMart on Topsy Lane from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. The cost is $5 per person with proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.

Remembering Carson Valley in the 1950s and 1960s at Dangberg Historic Park

For 60 years, camels, ostriches and even zebras have come to Virginia City for the annual International Camel & Ostrich Races. This hilarious annual tradition dates back to the 1950s, and features jockeys precariously perched on their beasts as they maneuver the track at high speeds, aiming for a win among the cheering audience in this historic mining town.

Nevada Health Link’s new call center, website now live

CARSON CITY — The Silver State Health Insurance Exchange, Nevada’s state agency that helps individuals obtain budget-appropriate health coverage through the online marketplace, Nevada Health Link, announces that starting Wednesday, consumers who previously purchased qualified health plans on HealthCare.gov can claim their migrated accounts on Nevada’s new state-based website, Nevada Health Link.

This is the first step enrollees should take to ensure their account is ready for open enrollment beginning on Nov. 1, 2019.

Firefighters use ALERTWildfire cameras to monitor, put brakes on potential catastrophic wildfires

RENO — As fire hazard has built through the summer, ALERTWildfire, a network of mountaintop cameras that helps fire managers spot and monitor fires over large swaths of land, has been on a frenzied pace to reach its goal of adding 300 cameras to the network in the western U.S. by the end of the year. In the past three years the network has been involved with nearly 1,000 fires.
