Rethinking Common Core... it is still a Huge Step DOWN
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Tue, 11/26/2013 - 8:12pmThe Common Core "State" Standards are a major change in the purpose, content and methodology of educating children from K through 12. According to some reports, not only are the college entrance exams being revised to be Common Core compliant, COLLEGES are also said to be considering adapting the change.
The question is, the change from WHAT?
The question is important because Common Core is either a step up, or just another step further down the road of the ever lower "progressive" standards that America has been experimenting with for over a hundred years.

Carson City employee publishes second book
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Thu, 06/28/2012 - 6:27pmI recently was taking a trip back to the North East and needed a few books for my long flight from Reno. After hearing about Bonners Fairy through Elizabeth’s husband Dave, whom I work with, I was intrigued. He gave me a copy before I left and after reading the first one I was hooked! Soon to follow, I was anxious to start the second book, A New Kind of Battle. Once I got my hands on a copy, it took me less than 24 hours to read. I was eager to find out what our favorite characters were up to, and how things were panning out in Bonners Ferry and Roan.

This is the opening paragraph of local author Jeani Ambrose’s first published book, Legacy of the Father. Legacy can best be described as a paranormal mystery with romantic overtones.

Movie Review: 'Red Riding Hood' ain't no fairy tale anymore
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Sun, 03/27/2011 - 4:01amThe movie "Red Riding Hood," currently showing at the Casino Fandango Galaxy multiplex in Carson City, makes s couple of nods to the fairy tale story but goes into more violent and wayward actions.
In a way, this is a ludicrous film, with Amanda Seyfried as Valerie (Red Riding hood), who certainly has the wide-eyed look of a naive young lady (not as a young girl, need a little more sex than a girl could offer) and in one scene almost becomes engaged in a bit of sex.
