Youth Theatre Carson City presents 'Shrek: The Musical' running Jan. 10-12 at Community Center
Youth Theatre Carson City is excited to announce the upcoming production of "Shrek the Musical," an exciting adaptation of the classic DreamWorks film set to run Jan. 10-12 in the Bob Boldrick Theatre at the Carson City Community Center.
"Shrek the Musical," based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks film that started it all, brings the hilarious story of everyone’s favorite ogre to dazzling new life on the stage. In a faraway kingdom turned upside down, things get ugly when an unseemly ogre – not a handsome prince – shows up to rescue a feisty princess. Throw in a donkey who won’t shut up, a bad guy with a SHORT temper, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you’ve got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there’s one on hand…and his name is Shrek.
The cast is comprised entirely of local youth ages 5 to 19, who play all the classic characters we all know and love! Leading the cast as Shrek, the ogre, is Taylor Barth, 19, a student at Western Nevada College. Also featured are Summer Barth, 16, as Donkey; Alexa Haight, 14, and Darby Beckwith, 16, sharing the role of the Princess Fiona; Wesley Sonnemaker, 15, as the evil Lord Farquaad; and Colton Desimone as Gingy, the gingerbread man with an attitude! Also rounding out the cast are a host of young actors, singers and dancers bringing to life this timeless tale!
"Shrek: The Musical" is directed by Youth Theatre Carson City founder and Northern Nevada native, Andie Anderson. Anderson has been a part of the arts community in Northern Nevada for more than 20 years. She just recently earned her Master of Arts Degree in Theatre Education from Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts and is ecstatic to be back in her hometown sharing her love of the arts with the young people of this community.
“I can’t be more proud of this cast,” commented Anderson. “This has been one of our most challenging production to date and these students have more than risen to that challenge. "Shrek: The Musical" is filled with fun and laughs the whole family will enjoy.”
"Shrek: The Musical" will run January 10-11 at 7pm and January 11-12 at 2pm in the Bob Boldrick Theatre at the Carson City Community Center located at 851 E. William Street in Carson City, NV. Tickets are $12 General Admission, $10 Students and Seniors, For tickets or more information, visit our website at www.youththeatrecarsoncity.com or call 775-882-0358.
