Senator Square: The weather, clothing and colors are changing at Carson High School

The weather is changing at Carson High School and so are the types of clothing some students are wearing. CHS Dean Sharon Hallinan sent an email out to all CHS teachers about this weather changing challenge. Hallinan told teachers to “please remind students of the Dress Code; highlight the fact that bare midriffs and holey jeans, which violate the ‘Fingertip Rule’, are not allowed.”

Carson City arrests: Man jailed for taking phone from domestic battery victim calling for help

A 41-year-old man was arrested early Thursday morning for suspicion of preventing a victim of domestic battery from calling for help, a felony, and other charges, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

April was an action packed month as several Carson High School clubs put on The Friendship Ball, A Night Under the Big Top Father Daughter Ball, and The Greatest Show on Earth 2019 Prom. Even more amazing than the dances are the students behind the scenes who, with the guidance of Leadership Adviser Ann Britt and FBLA Adviser Angila Golik, transformed the CHS Big Gym so that all visitors, young and old alike, would think they had walked into a beautiful dream.

Zumba is a dance form and aerobics fitness program. Zumba involves dance and aerobic movements performed to energetic Latin and pop music from countries around the world. The choreography incorporates hip hop, soca, samba, salsa, meringue and mambo.

Squats and lunges are also included. Students should wear comfortable clothing and tennis shoes, and bring a towel, water and a positive attitude! No prior dance experience is required - Zumba is about making friends, getting a workout, and enjoying yourself!

Boys and Girls Club to raffle Burning Man tickets at Kentucky Derby Fundraiser Saturday

The Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada is set to host one of their largest fundraisers of the year this Saturday, May 4, for its 11th year. Kentucky Derby Days 2019 will kick off at the Martin Hotel and Basque Restaurant, located at 308 N. Curry Street, at 2:30 p.m. and will run until 6 p.m.

All proceeds of the event will go to the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada, located in Carson City.

Woman sipped juice, put it back on grocery shelf, now held on $10K bail and facing felony drug charge

24-year-old Gardnerville woman was arrested in the 3200 block of Market Street at a local department store for suspicion of felony possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, petit larceny, and two counts of violating pre-trial conditions.

Rumor Kamille Schilling was take into custody after deputies were dispatched to the store after she allegedly took a drink of some juice without paying and put it back on the shelf.

Carson City deputies make arrests for battery, resisting and obstructing

A 44-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Wednesday, 11:51 p.m. in the 4700 block of South Carson Street for suspicion of battery, a sheriff's deputy said.
