Pinwheels for Prevention cover Carson City Legislature, raising awareness to prevent child abuse

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, and Carson City has gone blue with the Pinwheels for Prevention Campaign, a national event hosted by Carson City’s Advocates to End Domestic Violence, and Prevent Child Abuse Nevada.

On Friday, Carson City residents joined together to plant pinwheels across the Nevada Legislature's lawn, in an effort to raise awareness about preventing child abuse.

“The pinwheel is an uplifting reminder of childhood and the bright futures all children deserve,” a spokesperson for the national event said. “We want to reinforce the notion that healthy child development serves as a foundation for both community and economic development.”

Buhl charged with murder in death of Carson City toddler

The Carson City Sheriff's Office and Carson City Fire-Paramedics responded on March 17, 2017 to a medical emergency at the 100 block of Manzanita Terrace where caregiver 26 year-old Eric Anthony Buhl reported he was giving CPR to two year-old Coahuyana Hernandez.

Hernandez was transported to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. As a result of the immediate investigation, Mr. Buhl was arrested when a search of the residence disclosed explosive devices (later disarmed by the Tahoe-Douglas Bomb Squad). Mr. Buhl has remained in custody since the March 17 incident.
