Pinwheels for Prevention cover Carson City Legislature, raising awareness to prevent child abuse
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, and Carson City has gone blue with the Pinwheels for Prevention Campaign, a national event hosted by Carson City’s Advocates to End Domestic Violence, and Prevent Child Abuse Nevada.
On Friday, Carson City residents joined together to plant pinwheels across the Nevada Legislature's lawn, in an effort to raise awareness about preventing child abuse.
“The pinwheel is an uplifting reminder of childhood and the bright futures all children deserve,” a spokesperson for the national event said. “We want to reinforce the notion that healthy child development serves as a foundation for both community and economic development.”
At the Pinwheel Planting Ceremony on the Legislative lawn, along with Advocates and Prevent Child Abuse Nevada, Special Projects Coordinator Peggy Sweetland, CASA Executive Director Melanie McCormick, and the Bordewich Bray Choir joined together to do their part in this national event.
The Ron Wood Family Resource Center joined forces with pinwheel planting organized by their aged out foster youth, to symbolize children deserving great childhoods and bright futures.
On Friday, April 12, the Child Development Center at Western Nevada College will create a Pinwheel Garden, which is open to the public, to symbolize the protection and care of Nevada’s most vulnerable population.
