A 43-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday at a motel in the 1900 block of North Carson Street on felony suspicion of child abuse and neglect after allegedly tossing his two-year-old son alone into a hallway, saying he was going to hurt the boy and then later telling police he should have killed him, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

A 36-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday, 10:21 p.m. on felony suspicion of child abuse. The name of the suspect is being withheld because of the relationship with the juvenile he allegedly abused.
The man is being held on $40,000 bail. According to the arrest report, officers responded to the 1500 block of Firebox Drive in reference to a child abuse report. Officers met with the alleged juvenile victim and a former step mother.

Two-month old Infant dies, father located in Sacramento and taken into custody

A two-month old infant girl was taken off of life support at 12:48 a.m. Saturday morning, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office confirmed.

The agency is investigating a child abuse case involving a suspect, Trent Getty, the father of the girl, who was wanted by Douglas County investigators, and found in Sacramento, Calif., at a Greyhound Bus depo. He was taken into custody by the Sacramento Police Department, said Douglas County Sheriff's Sgt. Pat Brooks.

A Carson City woman has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for the child abuse death of her then-boyfriend's son. Brittany Paugh was sentenced in Carson District Court Tuesday for child abuse causing death.

Ira Hansen to step down as speaker of Nevada Assembly; says he's a victim, blames the media

Assemblyman Ira Hansen, R-Sparks, will step down as the GOP's choice for speaker of the Nevada Assembly. Hansen made the announcement in an statement sent to the Republican Assembly caucus that was made public Sunday. He blamed the media and the "powers that be" as prompting his resignation in which he said he has become a victim and target of "character assassination."

In recent days several columns he had written over the years for the Sparks Tribune and comments he made on KOH radio were again brought to light, where Hansen blasted blacks, women in the military, Jews and gays.

Carson City deputies make three separate domestic battery arrests Sunday

A Wadsworth, Nev., couple were arrested Sunday and charged with felony burglary charges after attempting to steal merchandise from Walmart, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Arrested were James William Thomas Jr., 42, on suspicion of felony shoplifting, and two misdemeanor warrants. Also arrested was Julia Anissa Burns, 43. She faces a felony charge of being an accessory and a misdemeanor warrant charge.

A 34-year-old Carson City man was jailed Saturday on suspicion of felony child abuse, domestic battery and three gross misdemeanor counts of child endangerment, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Joshua Michel Summerfield is being held on $63,314 bail. He was arrested in Lyon County and transported back to Carson City where he was booked.

The Common Core Way: civics lesson masquerading as mathematics

A recent bruhaha over Common Core math was triggered by an examples from the THIRD grade, in Washoe county, in which a “math” lesson and a “math” problem was centered on full length study of the “Rights of Man” from the French revolution, “Universal Declaration on Human Rights,” and the children’s version, both from the UN. The only excuse for any math in this lengthy lesson was that at one point they asked how much it would cost to do a project to illustrate something in these documents.

Lyon County authorities arrest two Fernley men in separate child abuse cases

Lyon County authorities are investigating two separate child abuse cases in Fernley that happened within days of each other.

Detectives arrested a Fernley man Sunday on a felony child abuse charge after a two-month-old infant was brought to Renown Medical Center in Reno with two fractures to the skull and a broken leg, said Lt. J. L. Pattison of the Lyon County Sheriff's Office.

Russell Frietze, 23, is being held on $75,000 bail on one count of child abuse with substantial bodily harm. The man is the boyfriend of the infant's mother, said Pattison.

Man jailed on felony child abuse charge

A 51-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday on a felony charge of child abuse after allegedly hitting and punching two juveniles, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Michael Todd Presley was arrested at 9:10 p.m. in the 4500 block of Short Putt Drive. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of domestic battery. According to the arrest report, officers were called to Governor’s Field at 4:15 p.m. regarding a report of suspected child abuse.

A 36-year-old Carson City man was arrested Wednesday on a felony charge of child abuse after allegedly hitting his juvenile-age son and kicking him out a car, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Christian Omar Rivera is being held on $40,000 bail. According to the arrest report, officers were called to the area of South Lompa Lane and Menlo Drive at 1:59 p.m. on a report of a child kicked out of a car. Dispatch reported that an adult male driving a white Cadillac got into altercation with a juvenile who was riding in the vehicle, and then drove away leaving the child behind.

Carson City woman arrested on felony child abuse charge after striking son inside store

A 31-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of felony child abuse causing mental or physical harm after surveillance inside a retail store captured her backhanding her six-year-old son in the face for no apparent reason.

Ashley Rose Mields was arrested at Walmart, in the 3200 block of Market Street at 7 p.m., after Carson City dispatch received 911 calls from customers reporting the incident. She is being held on $40,000 bail.

Carson City CASA training begins April 16

CASA OF Carson City will begin a training for CASA volunteers Wednesday April 16, 6 to 9pm at the CASA office, 1539 E. Fifth St. in parking lot beyond the Juvenile Court.

CASA volunteers are appointed by the court to serve as guardian ad litem for a case of abused or neglected children in a child welfare court case. Being a CASA volunteer requires patience, caring, research, writing, speaking and follow-through.

Pinwheels Planted for National Child Abuse Prevention Month

Carson City man jailed on suspicion of felony child abuse

A Carson City man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of felony child abuse, according to the Carson City Sheriff's Office. Michael Isaiah Rodriguez, 21, is being held on $20,000 bond.

According to the arrest report, Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies responded at 3:14 p.m. to the 1400 block of Siskiyou Drive for a report of child abuse. The minor child at the location had fresh bruising on the left side of his face, left eye, chest, back and neck. The mother of the child told officers that she believed her boyfriend, Rodriguez, had caused the injuries to her son.

Carson City man arrested on suspicion of felony child abuse

A Carson City man was arrested Friday on suspicion of felony child abuse. Terry Ray Kilfian was arrested in the 2200 block of Roop Street at 12:19 p.m.

According to the arrest report, Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies met with the 12-year-old victim who claimed his father punched him in the face, then kicked him on the side in his ribs. The child had visible injuries to his neck, face and ribcage, according to the arrest report.

Smith Valley woman faces 20 years after Lyon jury finds her guilty of felony child abuse

A Smith Valley woman has been convicted of child abuse causing substantial bodily harm, according to the Lyon County District Attorney’s Office.

Ashlee Marie Kinsey, 24, formerly known as Ashlee Marie Morrow, had been charged with two counts of child abuse. After a four-day trial, a jury found her guilty on Dec. 13 of abusing a young boy by cutting his foot with a boxcutter as a form of punishment. She is scheduled to be sentenced in District Court in Yerington on Feb. 3. She faces up to 20 years in prison.

Carson City woman jailed on felony child abuse charge; 2-year-old son suffers fractured skull

A 30-year-old Carson City woman faces a felony child abuse charge after her two-year-old son was treated for a fractured skull at Carson Tahoe Hospital.

Ivette Olmos-Campos, was arrested Oct. 21, the hospital. She admitted to Carson City Sheriff's Office investigators that she had been abusing her son for the past four months, hitting him with a wood stick and knocking him unconscious.

According to the arrest report, officers were dispatched to Carson Tahoe Hospital in reference to a report that the 2-year-old suffered from a fractured skull.
