Man jailed on felony child abuse charge

A 51-year-old Carson City man was arrested Thursday on a felony charge of child abuse after allegedly hitting and punching two juveniles, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Michael Todd Presley was arrested at 9:10 p.m. in the 4500 block of Short Putt Drive. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of domestic battery. According to the arrest report, officers were called to Governor’s Field at 4:15 p.m. regarding a report of suspected child abuse.

Officers spoke with a juvenile who said he was dizzy and nauseated. He said the man hit him in the head for not doing chores, pushups and for leaving a light on. Officers learned the juvenile’s older brother, age 14, went to defend his younger brother and was pushed to the ground and punched in the jaw by Presley. Officers observed his lower left jaw was swollen and a large bruise had already formed, according to the arrest report. Presley was arrested at his home. Bail: $43,137.

In other arrests: A 27-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday, 1:34 a.m. in the 3200 block of Retail Drive on a misdemeanor charge of domestic battery. Officers were called earlier to the 2000 block of Lone Mountain Drive for a domestic dispute. The suspect had already left. The victim said she and her husband had been arguing after he had come into the home, ransacking the place and waking their three children.

In speaking with the victim, officers noticed she was holding her arm in a position that she was putting it into a splint. Officers learned the woman had a purse, in which the suspect ripped from her right shoulder, injuring her before leaving.

The man was found at a fast food restaurant on Retail Drive. He told officers the couple had been arguing but he left to avoid any further problems. In his possession was the victim’s purse and cell phone. The man was asked how he obtained the two items. The man told officer all of his property was at the Lone Mountain address so he took the woman’s purse and phone until he could get his other property from her. He said the purse was sitting on the couch when he picked it up. He was arrested on domestic battery first offense. Bail: $3,137.

— A 20-year-old man was arrested Friday, 12:06 a.m. in the 3900 block of South Carson Street on a misdemeanor charge of minor consuming alcohol. The man was allegedly involved in a fight involving 20 subjects at a restaurant on Thursday night. The man had scrapes on his right knuckles and a bruise on his left cheek. He advised that he did not know who hit him and was released. He returned to the restaurant about an hour later. Officers observed he was grossly intoxicated and asked him his age. The man replied 20 years old. He was asked for identification, which he stated he didn’t have any, adding that it was OK because he was not driving. He was taken into custody where he blew a preliminary breath test of .221. Bail: $242.

— A 45-year-old man was arrested Thursday, 9:49 p.m. in the area of Scotch Pine and Windridge on misdemeanor charges of probation violation and disorderly conduct. Carson City Special Enforcement Team Officers responded to the area after he was spotted running from Parole and Probation officers. He was on Alternative Sentencing and prohibited from using drugs or alcohol. The probation officer was conducting a home visit after learning the man had been spoking methamphetamine an hour prior, the arrest report states. Officers learned there had been movement in some trees in the area of Windridge and Spooner Drive. Officers created a perimeter and called several times for the man to come out. He was found and arrested. Without prompting the man told officers that he had smoked methamphetamine around two hours prior. Bail: $3,242.

Those arrested and facing charges are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
