When there is heightened concern around an illness, Carson Tahoe closely monitors the situation and implements enhanced infection prevention strategies, working closely with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), state and local health districts, and other local healthcare providers. In response to the recent declaration of a ‘National State of Emergency’ surrounding the COVID-19 outbreak, and in following the CDC’s recommendations for social distancing, we have decided to take additional precautionary measures to reduce the risk of contracting/spreading seasonal illnesses.

Carson Tahoe Health (CTH) is unveiling several “Karma Boxes” (wooden/Plexiglas donation cabinets) at its various locations to house toiletries, first-aid items, and nonperishable foods for those in need, all available at any time and at no cost.

At its Program meeting on Wednesday, February 26, Carson City Soroptimist will feature John Malcolm, the Prevention Education Specialist for Safe Embrace, an area non-profit dedicated to educating the community and providing services to survivors of domestic and sexual violence.

Shirlee Leah Boyer Veverka, age 84, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2020, from complications of Parkinson’s disease, at her daughter’s home in Carson City, Nevada, surrounded by her four children.

Join the Carson City, Douglas County Relay for Life team on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at Firehouse Subs, Highway 50, in Carson City for a "Dine and Donate" event.

The University of Nevada, Reno’s Camp Kesem club has been chosen as one of 12 colleges and universities from across the United States to compete to be one out of five schools to be chosen to start a new Camp Kesem chapter in their local area. Sandra Louise Osheroff, aka Sandy, nanny, and mom, a mother, bookkeeper, dog lover and community mover and shaker, adored by many, feared by some, died of cancer on January 20, 2020 in Carson City, Nevada at the age of 82.

First Descents is piloting in 2020 a monthly meetups program in northern Nevada. The program will provide 11 life-changing outdoor and outdoor-related adventures this year free of cost to local young adults impacted by cancer and other serious health conditions.

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Firefighter Stairclimb is the world's largest on-air stair climb competition and annual fundraiser held at the tallest building in town, the Columbia Center in Seattle, Washington.

Firefighters from both East Fork Fire District in Douglas County and Carson City are participating in the fundraiser, and will be raising money for the fundraiser until the Stairclimb in March.

Vitalant, formerly United Blood Services, the nonprofit blood bank serving Northern Nevada has declared a critical shortage of blood as blood providers nationwide have less than a two days’ supply of necessary blood types.

RENO — January is National Radon Action Month, and University of Nevada, Reno Extension’s Radon Education Program is offering free short-term radon test kits to Nevadans from Jan. 1 through Feb. 29. Radon test kits are available at Extension offices and partnering locations, as well as at free presentations, statewide.
