Cheeseheads win Salvation Army Red Kettle challenge
Carson City fans of the Green Bay Packers won a challenge against San Francisco 49ers fans Monday as Salvation Army bell ringers rang their bells at a Red Kettle Ring Off.
The Packers fans raised $226.51 and the 49ers fans raised $143.34. The protest kettles for “Any other Team” raised $14.25. The challenge took place at the Wal-Mart on Topsy Lane from 4 to 6 p.m. The total collected was $384.10 which makes the real winners of this contest the less fortunate families that The Salvation Army will be able to help do to the hard work of both team’s fans and the generosity of the donors.
The money raised in The Salvation Army Red Kettles will be used to help local families. $384.10 is equal to about eleven needy families receiving a food box that will help feed them for a week. It is also nearly enough for two disadvantaged kids to go to summer camp. Money that is raised in the Red Kettles helps serve the community throughout the year and The Salvation Army is excited to see the community come together in a fun way to help them achieve their mission.
The Salvation Army of Carson City provides Services to Carson City, Dayton, and Douglas County for more than 18,000 people each year helping with school supplies, emergency food and lodging, utilities, holiday assistance, Summer Day Camp, Before School Care, and Summer Camp.
