Carson City activates emergency warming shelter at Fuji Park
FISH, in cooperation with the City of Carson City and the Red Cross, will be offering a warming shelter in anticipation of the freezing temperatures projected for Tuesday evening.
The Emergency Warming Shelter at Fuji Park will be open tonight, Tuesday night, Dec. 6, from 7:30 p.m. to 7 a.m. The shelter may be open longer based on the over-night low temperatures, 15 degrees or below.
Just a reminder: The shelter will take people:
— who are intoxicated, but do not have any alcohol or drugs in their possession;
— who have pets that will be under their owner’s supervision;
— who have no shelter available to them;
— who are not a danger to themselves or others.
Officials say they will have volunteers who will be proctoring the Warming Shelter.
FISH will be having its Shelter Shuttle available to transport people from FISH to the Warming Shelter at 7 p.m. (they need to be by FISH by 6:45p.m. and the shuttle would be leaving around 7 p.m.), and then leaving from the Warming Shelter to FISH at 7a.m.
“The number of people who show up always reminds of us of why we exist,” said Executive Director Jim Peckham of FISH. “And it is especially hard to see this during the holiday season.”
