Carson Nugget to host annual Community Thanksgiving Feast with COVID measures in place

This year the Carson Nugget in Carson City will celebrate its 63rd annual Community Thanksgiving Feast on Thursday, Nov. 26 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. All are welcome to join us in the Grand Ballroom. All guests will receive a free 8-inch turkey sandwich, stuffing, cranberry sauce and more.

FISH thrift store sales are a major source of revenue for this local non-profit dedicated to improving the lives of northern Nevadans. Its stores are also a great source of many items useful to those who create interesting and valuable household furnishings, clothing and art objects through the process of “upcycling.”

Carson City homeless in need of socks, sleeping bags

During the winter, the homeless population of Carson City can find warm beds to sleep at our rotating local churches nightly, but during the summer, no such places exist.

This is why Carson City Sheriff’s Office Chaplain Craig LaGier, who is also a deacon for St. Teresa of Avila’s Catholic Church, as well as the St. Vincent Advisor and Homeless Ministry, said sleeping bags and Y Athletic socks are the most important item he gives to the homeless.

Sierra Veterinary Hospital of Carson City a network partner for nonprofit Pets of the Homeless

The national nonprofit, Feeding Pets of the Homeless, welcomed Sierra Veterinary Hospital in Carson City as its first donation site a decade ago. Since then the hospital has collected more than 1,600 pounds of pet food and supplies from their clients and the community.

With cold weather having settled into the region, five churches in Carson City have partnered this season to operate nightly winter warming shelters for the area's homeless. These volunteer-staffed shelters will rotate monthly, each providing a warm place to sleep for the homeless and their pets.

Carson City Art Gallery donating portion of December sales to FISH

Rich and Robin McGregor, owners of Carson City Art Gallery and Pottery in downtown Carson City, are continuing to ensure no food bowls are empty this holiday season by donating 10 percent of gallery sales to the Friends In Service Helping (FISH) food program, which feeds hungry residents in Carson City, Douglas, Lyon and Storey counties.

Carson City principal makes good on bet with students who collected 7,000 cans of food

The school staff of Bethlehem Lutheran in Carson City challenged their students to raise more than 7,000 cans of food to help FISH provide for those in need with their "Trick or Treat for F.I.S.H." campaign.
