Hundreds donate to Carson City Empty Bowls hunger awareness fundraiser during Silver and Snowflakes holiday festival
A grassroots project to raise money and bring awareness of ongoing hunger issues in the Carson City area — The Empty Bowls Project — was the bright diamond among the many shining stars featured at Friday night's downtown Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights celebration.
More than 600 handcrafted artisan bowls made by dozen of local potters were featured for this inaugural event, led by Robin McGregor, owner of Carson City Pottery. Festival-goers paid $10 for each bowl, which were filled with steaming hot varieties of soup donated by local restaurants.
Money raised from the Empty Bowls Project goes to Friends In Service Helping, also known as FISH, which feeds, houses and provides services for more than 20,000 people in Carson City annually.
