Healthy Communities Coalition’s Yerington Food Pantry has served people in the Yerington area since 2017. With the generosity of Cheryl Giomi, who leased her Bridge Street building to the nonprofit at no charge, the Pantry continually expanded its work to stop hunger.

Seventh Annual 'Empty Bowls' in Carson City kicks off Saturday evening

The annual Empty Bowls fundraising night is underway and will continue throughout Saturday night.

Empty Bowls is an “international grassroots effort” to fight hunger around the world.

In our local community, volunteers work throughout the year to create handcrafted bowls. Each year, hundreds of bowls are crafted in Carson City for the purpose of the fundraiser.

Fall Harvest Golf Classic to benefit the Dayton Food Pantry

Help drive out hunger at the inaugural Fall Harvest Golf Classic! The tournament takes place Saturday, October 19th at the Dayton Valley Golf Course.

Hosted by Js’ Old Town Bistro and Duncan Golf Management, all proceeds benefit the Dayton Food Pantry, part of the Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties.

The Dayton Food Pantry provides food to more than 500 people a month, more than half of which are children and seniors. The Pantry also provides weekend meals to more than 200 school children through its Backpack Program.

December 21 is the Silver Stage Food Pantry’s fifth annual “Shopping with the Elves” event. From 1-5 p.m., parents who are guests of the Food Pantry can shop for gifts for their children.

The event includes a chance for children to visit with Santa and have holiday refreshments while their parents shop. The Pantry is in need of gifts for ages infant to 18 years.

Home-bound Seniors: The Pantry also welcomes donations of gifts for seniors. They deliver baskets and gifts to 40 home-bound elders, and sing carols to them as well.

Dayton Food Pantry in need of hams, sleeping bags during holidays

For the winter holidays, the Dayton Food Pantry has a goal of collecting 200 hams. In addition, the Pantry is in need of clean blankets and sleeping bags to distribute.

Ahead Friday is the annual KTVN Share Your Christmas Drive-By Food Drive held locally at the Governor's Mansion and at Minden's Carson Valley Inn. It is also the 6th annual Project Empty Bowls at Carson Mall, which has become a local soup for the soul favorite stop.

Carson City's Project Empty Bowls features hot soups, holiday entertainment, auction and more

In its sixth year, Carson City has fought hunger during the holidays in a very unique way by serving delicious hot soups prepared by local restaurants that are dished up in ceramic bowls made by the hands of people in the community.

This Friday, the all-you-can-eat fundraiser returns, this time at the Carson Mall, with an array of holiday entertainment, an auction, raffle and more to go along with delicious, savory and soothing hot soup delights.

The event runs from 4 to 8 p.m. inside the Carson Mall's north entrance.

Community helps Dayton Food Pantry reach its Thanksgiving goals

The Dayton Food Pantry hit its goal to collect and distribute 300 turkeys during the days leading up to the Thanksgiving holiday.

“I can't thank everyone enough. During November, the community helped the Pantry reach 1,250 people who needed food," said Pantry manager Alie Trier.
