CHS students cut cake for Nevada State Museum's 75th anniversary
Dozens gathered inside the Dema Guinn wing of the Nevada State Museum to hear the tribute to the museum’s 75th anniversary.
Besides the appearance of historical character Samuel Clemens — also known as author Mark Twain — played by McAvoy Layne, the event’s highlight was cutting of the massive 75th anniversary birthday cake, baked and assembled by the Carson High School Culinary Arts Department.
Culinary team members said the entire project has taken two months to complete. Frosting alone was a 10-hour task that started at 7 a.m. Thursday morning and finished at 5 p.m. later that afternoon.
Featuring a scale replica of the original United States Mint building that is the cornerstone of the museum, the cake also displayed decorative replicas of the green Press No. 1, the Liberty Bell, the mammoth skeleton, and a woven American indian basket.
Chocolate silver and gold colds lined the perimeter of the cake, too.
The Nevada Museum is open until 4:30 p.m. this afternoon. Admission is free in celebration of Nevada Day.
