Carson City animal shelter dog kennels temporarily closed for building maintenance
Carson City’s aging animal shelter will undergo scheduled maintenance and necessary repairs that will take approximately three to four weeks, leading to the temporary closure of the dog kennels at the facility. The cat adoption area, licensing, and main shelter will remain open as normal.
All dogs not considered stray are being temporarily sheltered at Nevada Humane Society in Reno located at 2825 Longley Lane, while stray dogs will be housed at a boarding facility and Animal Control Officers will help return dogs to their owners.
“During this time, dog adoptions will continue to happen at Nevada Humane Society—they will just all take place in Reno at our shelter located on Longley Lane. Cat adoptions will continue as normal at both facilities,” said Denise Stevens, Chief Operating Officer for Nevada Humane Society.
“If your pet goes missing or gets out, you can still reach our staff and Animal Control Officers at 775-887-2171 and they will strive to do everything possible to provide more information or to return your pet without even bringing him or her to the shelter.
Meanwhile, we are working with the City to ensure the maintenance is expedited as efficiently as possible so that we can resume complete shelter operations in a timely manner,” said Stevens.
