The Nevada Humane Society's shelters in Carson City and Reno are currently open and fully operational. Our primary goal right now is to reduce the number of animals housed at our shelters in an effort to avoid overcrowding should we need to restrict our services or close altogether.

In an effort to keep Carson City safe from pet infectious diseases Pets of the Homeless is sponsoring a free pet wellness clinic. The clinic will be held at FISH, 138 E. Long St. on Saturday, May 19, 2018. The clinic will start at 9 a.m. the first 100 pets will be seen by veterinarians and their staff from Sierra Veterinary Hospital, Timberline Animal Hospital, Carson City Animal Shelter. As an added service, Pets of the Homeless will be sponsoring the free spay/neuters through CASI’s Critter Fixer program.

Let's put this silly claim by my opponent that he's the voice of reason to rest and use his supposed opposition to the 1/8th city sales tax hike to do it.

With the city Supervisor seat from Ward 4 in the balance, Jim Shirk once again wants to have things both ways in typical politician fashion by saying he voted against the sales tax hike and opposed the downtown Carson Street project, yet he leaves out important details about his voting record and value received.

New Carson City animal shelter to break ground Oct. 14 with ceremony

Carson City will break ground on the new Animal Services facility on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 9:30 a.m. Attending the ceremony will be Carson City Public Works officials, the City Board of Supervisors, Carson Animal Services Initiative, and representatives of the Nevada Humane Society.

Carson City animal shelter dog kennels temporarily closed for building maintenance

Carson City’s aging animal shelter will undergo scheduled maintenance and necessary repairs that will take approximately three to four weeks, leading to the temporary closure of the dog kennels at the facility. The cat adoption area, licensing, and main shelter will remain open as normal.

Nevada Humane Society board pledges $225,000 for new Carson City animal shelter

The Nevada Humane Society board of directors have agreed to raise $225,000 for a new animal shelter to be built in Carson City, officials said ahead of Thursday's meeting of the Carson City Board of Supervisors.

Supervisors will consider additional funding for the proposed new shelter project that is set to replace the current, aging facility. In a news release sent Wednesday, the Humane Society notes the funding gap regarding anticipated costs and said it will raise money to help defray some of the costs.

Did Rollie Die in Vain?

Last year's callous, unnecessary killing of Rollie, the tiny pet dog, at the city animal shelter justifiably ignited community outrage. This one event resulted in a $41,000 settlement to Rollie's owner for the wrongful death of her dog, paid, of course, by Carson's residents and business owners. The terminated animal shelter manager, under whose watch Rollie died, is suing city taxpayers for wrongful discharge from her position.

Leadership Institute and Children’s Museum unveil new Science Room

The Carson City Chamber Leadership Institute Class of 2013 will graduate on Thursday, September 12 after an intensive nine months of learning about Carson City and will unveil their leadership project at the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada.

Management change made at Carson City animal shelter

Management changes have been made at the Carson City animal facility, city officials confirmed Thursday. Gail Radtke, who served as the animal services manager, is no longer with the city.

Bob Elliott, who is the current Environmental Health Inspector with Carson City Health and Human Services, will be the interim manager. A permanent replacement will be done in a search.
