Carson City Sheriff's arrest log: Man jailed for property destruction at hospital
A 30-year-old Gardnerville man was arrested late Friday night in the 1600 block of Medical Parkway for felony destruction of property resulting in more than $5,000 in damages, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy said.
The man was taken into custody at 11:28 p.m. after deputies were called to Carson Tahoe Hospital regarding a combative patient.
Multiple witnesses were interviewed, recounting the man had been brought to the hospital on a psychotic emergency and became violent an aggressive toward staff. In a subsequent interview with the suspect it was learned the man suffers from psychosis and had a mental breakdown. Due to federal HIPAA privacy laws and the incident happening at the hospital, Carson Now will not list the man's name.
According to the arrest report, upon the deputy's arrival, hospital staff had secured the suspect to a bed using wrist and ankle straps. Security initially attempted to detain the suspect, who became combative and head-butted one security guard in the forehead. A nurse subsequently injected the man with a sedative in an attempt to calm him down.
However, the suspect refused to cooperate with hospital emergency room staff, the report said, becoming increasingly agitated and throwing a stool at a glass door. He also reportedly grabbed a computer monitor, ripping it off the wall and destroying the hardware by throwing it on the floor, the report said.
The deputy then interviewed the suspect, who reported he was intoxicated and had been throwing rocks at cars. That's when deputies and paramedics arrived, he said, transporting him to the hospital.
The man told officers he was "falling apart," suffering from psychosis and Asperger's, the report said.
When given medications at the hospital, the suspect said said he freaked out, breaking the glass door and computer monitor. Damaged surveyed showed the computer monitor laying on the floor, having been ripped off of its stand and exposing components. Flooring was also scraped and gouged from where the door had been ripped off of its rails, the report said.
Once the man had received medical evaluation and was stable and cleared, he was taken to the Carson City Jail for booking. Bail: $5,000.
