Procession, live funeral coverage for Carson City Sheriff’s Deputy Carl Howell
Coverage of the funeral procession for Carson City Sheriff’s Deputy Carl Howell will begin at 9 a.m. in Carson City and in Reno at 11 a.m. with a live streaming broadcast of services via KTVN Channel 2 and available on Carson Now. Go here for the live stream.
The 11 a.m. funeral service is at the Reno Events Center, 400 North Center Street.
Carson Now will provide coverage of the procession from Musser Street and along North Carson Street through Carson City, beginning at 9 a.m. North Carson Street will be closed from Musser to the I-580 Freeway to allow for the procession.
Citizens are encouraged to line the sidewalks of North Carson Street from Musser through downtown, where the procession, led by a firetruck carrying Howell, will meet up with other law officers from around region at North Carson Street and College Parkway before entering onto the I-580 Freeway.
Motorists can expect delays on northbound I-580 with all northbound on ramps closed as the procession from Carson City approaches. The same will occur on IR-80 westbound, with traffic westbound at the bowl being stopped between Rock Boulevard and IR-580 for the Procession to make its way to the Center Street westbound off ramp. During this time, residents are advised to use surface streets or alternate routes. These ramp closures are expected to be short in nature however it will cause delays.
A large amount of traffic is expected in conjunction with this event and it is encouraged for the attending public to use the available downtown parking.
The Reno Events Center will open its doors for seating at 9:30 a.m. KTVN Channel 2 Reno will provide video streaming of the funeral that can be found on Carson Now.
The Reno Police Department and the City of Reno Public Works department will close several streets in the downtown area beginning at 8 a.m. Thursday. Planned street closures are:
— North Virginia Street from Sixth Street south to Fourth Street. Fourth Street will remain open for citizens to travel west and east on Fourth
— Virginia Street will be closed south of the intersection with Fourth Street to Second Street.
— Other street closures will be Fifth Street, Plaza, and Commercial east of Virginia Street to Center Street. Center Street will be open with the exception of the northbound lane on the east side of the street.
Parking for family, friends, and non-law enforcement personnel will be available at the National Bowling Stadium, but is limited to 290 vehicles.
The general public is encouraged to use surrounding parking garages in the area.
