Laborers Union Local 169 donated $12,500 in grocery store gift cards to seven local nonprofits in northern Nevada to support the local community in this time of need.

Mobile Mammovan to make stops in Carson City, Virginia City and Yerington

Nevada Health Centers’ Mammovan will be making stops beginning next week around northern Nevada. There will screenings in Carson City, Virginia City, Yerington and Reno.

The mobile Mammovan aims to make mammography services accessible and convenient for women by visiting locations across Nevada. These screenings are primarily for women age 40 and older; however, screenings will be provided to those younger than 40 that have a physician referral.

Thousands mourn slain Carson City sheriff’s deputy Carl Howell at funeral service

RENO, Nev. — Carson City Sheriff’s Office Deputy Carl Howell was remembered for his heroism and being a “true warrior” by those who knew him best as they shared their memories among thousands of mourners who gathered for a funeral service Thursday at Reno Events Center.

Howell, 35, died Saturday, August 15, 2015 in the line of duty responding to a domestic violence call at an East Carson City home. He was married to wife Rachel and is a father of four children. He was a nine year veteran of the Carson City Sheriff's Office having started serving in March 2006.

A procession through Carson City this morning for fallen Sheriff's Deputy Carl Howell began at the Carson City Sheriff's Office on Musser Street and moved north along Carson Street, where it met with law enforcement agencies from around the region. Carson City pays respects to Deputy Carl Howell

Thousands of Carson City residents lined Musser and North Carson Street this morning to pay their respects to fallen Carson City Sheriff's Deputy Carl Howell who died in the line of duty on Saturday, August 15, 2015 responding to a domestic violence call.

The procession was led by the Carson City Motor Patrol Unit, Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong and Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval. It was followed by dozens of law enforcement agencies from around the region who came to pay their respects.

The mood has been somber in Carson City this week. The news of Sheriff Deputy Carl Howell’s shooting death has rallied the community, beginning with a large candlelight vigil held last Saturday at the Capitol. Today the officer will be laid to rest after a funeral service at the Reno Convention Center. A procession will leave the Carson City Courthouse at 9 a.m. and travel north along Carson Street. A funeral procession through Carson City for fallen Sheriff’s Deputy Carl Howell will be Thursday, 9 a.m. beginning at the Carson City Sheriff’s Office on Musser Street and will move along North Carson Street on its way to services in Reno.

The procession will be led by a fire truck that will carry Howell’s casket past the Nevada State Capitol and proceed north along Carson Street. It will meet up with a larger procession of law officers that will be staged at North Carson Street and College Parkway.

U.S. Honor Flag to be presented at funeral for Carson City deputy killed the line of duty

The U.S. Honor Flag will be delivered in tribute to Carson City Sheriff's Office Deputy Carl Howell, who died in the line of duty Saturday, Aug. 15, 2015. This American flag has traveled more than 7 million miles since Sept. 11, 2001 honoring more than 1,000 heroes.

The flag will be delivered in a state-by-state escort that will originate in Texas, said Chris Heisler, president and co-founder of The Honor Network.

Graham's Word: AAA All-Star Weekend A Great Success For Reno And Northern Nevada

All-Star Weekend was a huge success for the Northern Nevada area. The Fanfest festivities were a great way to kick off the big weekend. The events included appearances by former San Francisco Giants JT Snow, Robb Nen, Steve Finley, and Jack Clark. There were great interactive things for the fans to do as well: Batting cages, test your pitching speed, see how fast you could steal home, and my favorite thing was the whiffle ball home run field they created in the Reno Events Center.

Romney Rallies Reno Voters In Effort To Win Nevada

RENO – Gov. Mitt Romney fired up a crowd of about 2,000 enthusiastic Northern Nevada  voters today, urging them to get to the polls and help him take the battleground state that is Nevada 13 days from now.

Romney told the crowd that President Obama is out of ideas, out of excuses and will be out of office come Nov. 6.

The president, “doesn’t understand what it takes to get this economy going, he doesn’t have a plan to get jobs for Americans, I do and that’s why I’m going to win,” he said.
