Nevada and California agencies to participate in hazardous materials drill at Lake Tahoe
There will be a regional hazardous materials (hazmat) exercise Thursday at Diamond Peak Ski Resort on the north shore of Lake Tahoe.
The exercise begins 9 a.m. will run throughout the day. The drill is organized by the 92nd Civil Support Team from Las Vegas. Other entities participating will be the 9th Civil Support Team from Los Angeles, Placer County HAZMAT Team, Tahoe Douglas Bomb Squad, Washoe County Consolidated Bomb Squad, and North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District.
Acknowledgments’ and thanks to Incline Village General Improvement District and Diamond Peak for the use of the facility. There will be a large number of emergency vehicles and military vehicles involved during the drill so we ask the public to please be aware and to please exercise caution when approaching the ski resort during the day.
Civil Support Teams are part of the National Guard. There are 57 Civil Support Teams throughout the United States. They provide first response to weapons of mass destruction for the Department of Defense. They have also deployed to natural disasters such as hurricane Katrina, and the Columbia Shuttle disaster.
