Carson City arrests: Man with open knife in pocket held after scuffle with deputy
A 51-year-old Carson City man was booked Monday for suspicion of felony assault with a deadly weapon and other offenses after fleeing from and then attempting to fight with a sheriff's deputy.
Emmett Mel Rogers was taken into custody at 8:48 a.m. He was also arrested for suspicion of resisting an officer with violence and being an intoxicated pedestrian, both misdemeanor offenses.
According to the arrest report, a Carson City sheriff's deputy responded to the area of South Curry ad Rhodes Street for a male walking in the roadway, possibly intoxicated, yelling at motorists.
When the officer arrived in the area, several people pointed to the man. The officer exited his patrol vehicle and the subject began walking toward the officer. When the officer asked him to sit on a retaining wall in the parking lot area, the man said "no" and took off running, the arrest report states.
With the man running in the street, several vehicles nearly struck him. The officer caught up to the man, who then turned toward him in a fighting stance. The deputy could see a knife in the man's front pocket. The man continued to not follow commands or direction.
The officer was able to trap both the man's arms before he reached for the knife, and then took him to the ground. The man continued to actively resist the officer until he was securely placed into handcuffs.
The knife, a red handled folding knife with a 3.5-inch blade, was in an open position and was removed from the man. He was checked out by Carson City paramedics for an abrasion to his head.
The suspect began cussing and screaming and refused to cooperate with paramedics. The deputy was able to get a breath sample from him, with a result of .086. He was placed in a patrol vehicle, where he kicked and spit during transport. Bail: $20,000.
