Movie Review: Harry Potter lives one more time at the Galaxy in Carson City
OK, so I missed the first seven Harry Potter films and the J.K Rowling books that served as the basis for the series. Bad planning or no planning. So when the last of the series, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," opened at the Fandango Galaxy multiplex with three theaters showing the film simultaneous, in 2-D and 3-D, I figured time to catch up.
A bit of a mistake there. I sat through the 2 hours and 10 minutes of the PG-13 rated film last weekend amid a nearly sold out house and was, I must confess, largely baffled. I knew none of the characters, who were the bad guys, even who and why the fighting was going on.
But the language was literate, the acting just fine, the special effects on a par with the latest thrillers, so I enjoyed the movie, even if I wasn't quite sure whiat was going on. Daniel Radcliffe as Harry along with sidekicks Rupert Grint and Emma Watson were full of vigor and looks, with Emma starting to bust out of the pre-teen mold apparently.
So what can I say about a film that I really didn't totally understand, other than to say that the makeup on Ralph Fiennes was a triumph over human to reptile face.
You don't need my comments to see this final Harry Potter film — you got eight movies out of seven books, so you're ahead of the game.
Sit back and enjoy, and if you're not up on Harry's world check the Web for a primer on the matter. Wish I had done that before seeing the movie.
