Numbers Fire south of Gardnerville grows to more than 20,000 acres, 5 percent containment
Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch reports Wednesday that the #NumbersFire southeast of Gardnerville has grown to 20,500 acres. The Bureau of Land Management reports a lower figure, 18,000 acres, with 5 percent containment, or a fuel break around the fire.
One home and at least 10 outbuildings have burned from the fire, which started Monday night. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
As of Wednesday morning, Highway 395 remains closed at Riverview and State Route 208. There is no estimated time of reopening. Pinenut 2 Rd remains closed (Residents can come and go with valid ID)
The evacuations for the following areas have been lifted:
— Pine View Estates (evacuations lifted at 7pm 7/7/20)
— Bodie Flat (evacuations lifted at 7pm 7/7/20)
— Out our Way area (evacuations lifted at 7am 7/8/20)
— Blue Bird, Lena Way (evacuations lifted at 7am 7/8/20)
(Residence only and access only via Fish Springs Road)
Current Road Closures
— 395 closed at Riverview and SR208. HARD CLOSURE per NDOT
— Pinenut 2 Rd remains closed (Residents can come and go with valid ID)
Donations can be taken to the Douglas County Community and Senior Center. The County and East Fork Fire are currently accessing costs incurred by the fire and the possibility of a Fire Management Assistance Grant.
UPDATE From Lyon County Manager Jeff Page: Lyon County Emergency Management has been notified by the Smith Valley Fire Protection District that there is a possibility that the Numbers Fire could spread to Lyon County in the Smith Valley, Wellington area.
Crews are monitoring the region to verify the path of the fire. It is anticipated that the fire may reach Red Canyon or Little Burbank Canyon later today, Wednesday. Lyon County Emergency Management has been in contact with the Lyon County Sheriff's Office and Lyon County Road Department to prepare staff and resources for potential evacuations and traffic control. Lyon County Emergency Management will provide updated information as it becomes available.
Due to COVID 19 Issues Lyon County will not be able to open shelters in the event of evacuation. Citizens in the Upper Colony Road area are urged to plan ahead and consider making arrangements to stay in motels or with friends or family not in the area of the fire.
