Carson City weather: Red Flag fire weather warning today as heat mixes with gusty winds
The hot and very dry weather will continue through Wednesday around the Carson City region, with stronger winds Monday afternoon as low pressure passes toward the north, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a Red Flag fire weather warning.
Wind gusts of 35 to 40 mph are possible with humidity levels in the low teens to single digits. The warning runs from 2 to 10 p.m. Monday.
Meanwhile, stronger afternoon breezes most of this week may increase haze and smoke in western Nevada from several large wildfires in California, according to the weather service.
To do your part to prevent brush fires, the weather service has built a “Fire Prevention Checklist” as a way to avoid any potential fire starters. Among the items on the list include:
— Obey fireworks and campfire restrictions
— Stow trailer chains properly
— Hold off on yard work or welding near dry vegetation
— Postpone target shooting
— Avoid driving in dry grass
— Do not smoke in areas of dry grass or thick vegetation
Along with the expected blast of gusty winds, temperatures around Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton areas are expected to soar into the mid 90s Monday, low 90s Tuesday and Wednesday with a cool down by Thursday and Friday with highs in the low 80s, according to the weather service.
As always with the hot weather, never leave your children or pets alone inside vehicles. With the heat outside, it is better to keep your pets inside your home as well as to make sure they have plenty of cold water.
