Carson City men face felony burglary charges after alleged Mills Park break-in

Two unemployed Carson City men face felony burglary charges after allegedly breaking into the Mills Park Pavillion and taking cell phones and a clock.
Christopher Darrell Stehlin, 20, and Darren Hutchins, 19, are being held in Carson City jail on $50,000 bail each. The men were arrested Friday afternoon.
According to the Carson City Sheriff's Office arrest report, deputies were dispatched at 7 a.m. Friday to the Mills Park Pavilion. Deputies learned that a window was open and entrance was made. The building had been ransacked and there were two cell phones and a clock missing, according to park personnel. Deputies dusted the area and lifted several fingerprints off the window, according to the arrest report.
At the south end of the building it was discovered that vent slats were removed as if someone had climbed inside. Parks and Recreation officials had found that the heater vent from the ceiling had been removed and a subject or subjects had entered. A drawer near the main cash register was opened and had been gone through, though nothing appeared to be missing.
Serial numbers of the phones were taken and the cell phone company was contacted. It was learned that the phone was used at about 1:15 a.m. The phone number that was called was to a Harbin street address, according to the arrest report.
Officers went to the address and was advised that the suspect had moved next door. The next door tenant was contacted and a roommate advised that the suspect went for a walk and would be back in an hour, according to the arrest report.
An officer returned and learned that the man had been at the home but left with his mother to cash a check, according to the arrest report.
Stehlin then returned to the address and spoke with the officer. Stehlin admitted that he had been to Mills Park during the night time hours and "finally admitted that he and his friend (Hutchins) broke into the building at the pavilion and the railroad building," according to the arrest report.
Stehlin stated that he was told to stay outside while Hutchins went inside and took the items, according to the arrest report.
Stehlin stated that when the alarm went off at the railroad building, they ran off. Stehlin stated that Hutchins had a backpack and believed the stolen items were in the backpack, according to the arrest report.
As deputies spoke with Stehlin, Hutchins arrived and after making identification, he was taken into custody and was transported to jail. Stehlin wrote a statement describing what they allegedly did and he was transported to jail, according to the arrest report.
A family member of Hutchins located one of the stolen phones and the clock, which were booked into evidence.
