Fire destroys at least four apartment units at Carson City complex
Fire destroyed at least four units at the Parkway Plaza apartment complex in Carson City early Saturday evening, fire officials confirmed.
No one was hurt in the blaze in which two families escaped injuries when the fire began to spread quickly, said Tom Tarulli, assistant fire chief for Carson City Fire Department. Two other families were not home at the time of the fire, which happened in building R, which occupies several two-level apartments.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The fire was called into dispatch at 5:48 p.m. and by the time firefighters arrived a heavy amount of smoke covered the large apartment complex on College Parkway near Carson Street.
Fire units from East Fork Fire Protection District were called in for assistance as well as Lyon County, which covered the rest of the city as fire crews fought the blaze. At around 6:50 p.m. Douglas County was also called to help other stations still working the on fire cleanup operations.
The fire burned hot with black smoke and large flames but was quickly extinguished by quick-acting firefighters, Tarulli said.
"By the time I left Goni Street they (first responding firefighters) already had a quick handle on it, getting it down," Taruilli said.
