Picnic shelter to be removed, playground equipment replaced at Carson City's Ross Gold Park
UPDATE 4:25PM: Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space is currently working on its master plan for Ross Gold Park. Replacement of the aging picnic shelter will be addressed in the master plan.

CARSON CITY — The Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department will begin demolition on the existing playground and picnic shelter at Ross Gold Park beginning March 25. The playground is over 25 years old and does not meet current playground safety guidelines.
The picnic shelter’s structural integrity has been compromised and can no longer be repaired. These two areas will be fenced off during the demolition work and the public is being asked to avoid these areas during this time.
As part of the City’s efforts to reinvest in aging parks infrastructure, the City acquired $261,657 from the Land and Water Conservation Fund and $91,664 from the Community Development Block Grant program for improvements to Ross Gold Park. Match for the grants came from Residential Construction Tax. This project will replace the existing playground with a new universally accessible playground and make ADA access improvements to the asphalt parking lot.
The project’s goal is to provide a playground that creates an outdoor play environment and experiences for the physical and social inclusion of all ages and abilities. The playground design provides an inclusive multi-generational play destination that encourages active, independent, and meaningful play for everyone.
Beginning in April 2019, plans are underway for Garden Shop Nursery Landscaping Division to begin the project, and construction is anticipated to take approximately three months. Ross Gold Park will remain open and the public is being asked to avoid all construction zones.
