Assistant DA Mark Krueger to run for top Carson City District Attorney seat
Assistant District Attorney Mark Krueger on Saturday announced his candidacy for Carson City District Attorney.
As Assistant District Attorney, Krueger has been second in command at the Carson City District Attorney’s Office since 2012 and leads a team of 22 professional and support staff.
“I have extensive experience working with city government and the criminal justice system,” he said. “Carson City needs an experienced prosecutor, civil litigator and team leader to fill the important role of District Attorney and I bring that to the table.”
The seat is being vacated by current Carson City District Attorney Neil A. Rombardo. In January Carson City private practice attorney Jason Woodbury announced his run for the office.
Krueger previously served as Assistant District Attorney in Lyon County, managing staff, prosecuting criminal cases and providing legal counsel to County officials and department heads. In his 15 year career, Krueger has conducted over 35 criminal jury trials and has handled complex civil litigation. He has argued before the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, the Nevada Supreme Court, and federal and state district courts throughout the state.
Krueger said he intends to continue growing services aimed at protecting victims of crime and intends to develop and implement a program using service dogs to alleviate the stress and fear victims experience when they are faced with testifying in court. "It is proven that service dogs can play an important and effective role in helping victims recover from the trauma of violent crimes and aid in their testimony,” he said
“I am passionate about victims’ rights,” he said. “I have seen how critical Victim Services is to effective prosecution and to comfort victims of violent crimes and I support the District Attorney's Victim Witness Program”
Krueger said he will focus on community awareness and education to prevent crime and promote public safety. Krueger developed the Business Protection Program to assist businesses in preventing embezzlement and theft crimes.
Krueger added, he will continue to restructure the criminal team to establish a career path for prosecutors. In addition to promoting team-oriented learning through extensive hands-on training, he will implement proven trial procedures, reducing costs both for active cases and appeals.
“I am dedicated to the people of Carson City and am committed to making the District Attorney's Office a modern, efficient legal team,” he said.“Our prosecutors and staff will have a career path, our processes will be streamlined and green to save taxpayers money without jeopardizing public safety, and our goal will be to seek justice in every case."
Prior to joining the Carson City District Attorney's Office, Krueger was the Assistant District Attorney for Lyon County; a Senior Deputy Attorney General for the Attorney General's Office; and a law clerk to the former judges Michael E. Fondi, William A. Maddox, and former Supreme Court Justice William A. Maupin.
Krueger, 44, lives in Carson City with his family.
