Movie Review: 'The Devil Inside' is a waste of your time
The "found footage" film (whatever that means) "The Devil Inside" now playing at the Fandango Galaxy cineplex in Carson City and elsewhere, is another exorcist adventure of sorts — mostly disparate parts.
A quick warning: if you suffer from motion sickness that is one good reason to skip this movie. Most of it was shot by handheld cameras, resulting in nausea in some cases, like mine. There are other good reasons to see "Hugo" or even Desi and Luci reruns instead.
However, seems that 20 years ago Maria Rossi bumped off three people who were performing an exorcism on her, then called the Italian police. She's been locked up in a Catholic psych hospital ever since.
Her daughter Isabella Rossi (Fernanda Andrade, a luscious lady of parts) wants to mark her 20th birthday with her mother and enlists a trio to help her. Seems she's worried about becoming possessed as well and had an abortion which might send her that way.
She enlists three to film the birthday meeting — Ben (Simon Quarteran), Michael (Ionut Grama) and David (Evan Helmuth). No titles needed.
Things flip along with a lot of malarkey about the size of the iris indicating something or other and a lot of pressing of a cross on peoples' heads. And a lot of riding around in a car. And a lot of blank sequences of blur and patterns. And a lot of blather about what who knows?
It doesn't add up to a comprehensible film. More like a lot of clips from a cutting room floor glued together. Viewers are warned that the Vatican disavowed any cooperation and approval of the film. Here's where the Vatican got it right. Viewers are referred to an Internet site for further information.
Don't waste time on this mess. You've already wasted time reading this review. Go skiing instead.
