Lyon and Douglas County sheriff's agencies increase intersection patrols through January
Douglas and Lyon County law enforcement agencies and the Nevada Highway Patrol will step up traffic enforcement in both counties beginning this week as part of the first Joining Forces effort of the new year, officials said Monday.
There will be increased presence at intersections and crosswalks where deputies will be looking for red lights and stop sign runners, pedestrian violations, speeders and distracted drivers. The added enforcement begins Tuesday and lasts through Jan. 21, said DSCO Sgt. Pat Brooks in a joint news release with Lyon County Sheriff's Office.
Key factors in many of the recent fatal highway traffic accidents have been driver inattention and failure to yield to pedestrians. Deputies and Troopers will continue to enforce all traffic violations on all roadways throughout the county; these violations in particular will be targeted and enforced. Citations will be issued to violators.
Sheriff's in both counties wants to remind all motorists traveling on our highways to slow down as weather conditions change very quickly this time of year and drive defensively, said Brooks. Distracted, hurried or inattentive driving could lead to a life-ending tragic accident.
This enforcement detail is partially paid for by a grant from the State of Nevada, Department of Public Safety, Office of Traffic Safety.
Nevada Joining Forces is a multi-jurisdictional law enforcement program that promotes statewide enforcement of seat belt use, DUI, distracted driving, speeding and pedestrian safety.
