Tom Brooks Annual Memorial Fishing Tournament — Gone Fishin' 2014
Tomorrow, Saturday, is the last day of the Annual Tom Brooks Gone Fishin' tournament. Held every year in memory of Thomas Brooks who passed away in August of 2008. Weigh in is at 4pm at the Timbers Saloon on Carson St.
Held every year, Toms loved ones and lifetime friends put this tournament together to go do what Tom loved the most; fishing. There is a money prize for the biggest fish brought in to weigh, raffles, BBQ, beer, washers, and my most favorite part; talking about the memories and sharing laughs of Tom.
"Uncle Fish" as I called him my whole life. Joe Brooks is the little brother of Tom. Has not fished since the very first tournament held 4 years ago. Today is a big day! Joe wasn't going to fish this year, as we were told in short notice of the dates for the tournament.
Until he received a phone call from yes, his ex wife Lisa's boyfriend Rob Clayton. Who won the first tournament that was held! Rob lost a line out in Tahoe and met up with Joe in the middle and was given a new luer. He ended up winning the tournament with the biggest fish on my dads (Joe) equipment. Rob has fished every year in this tournament.
This year his partner was unable to go. So he called up Joe and said that he had nobody to fish with and asked if he would fish with him...Today Joe and Rob are out on Tahoe together making a new memory.
Can you imagine?! Fishing with your ex wifes boyfriend? You would think that couldnt be possible, but it is. I love you daddy, today is a huge day for you and it makes me tear up. Thank you for being the best dad a girl could ever ask for. Rob, you have been my step dad for 12 years, thank you for loving my mom and myself and for sharing this day with my dad.
Uncle Fish, you are tremendously missed by us all. Your smile is forever engraved in my heart and mind. Your laugh will forever be the best thing to hear, now as a memory. And you live on in your great-nephew, my son, Drayden Thomas. Never forgotten Smell. GONE FISHIN'
Also RIP to Bob Townsend who passed away Jan 28, 2014. He was a big part of the fishing crew through the years! Now Tom has someone to share this gift of amazing memories to us all with.
