Reno Coin Club and State Museum mark National Coin Week with special presentations, coin press
The Nevada State Museum celebrates National Coin Week April 19-25 with special activities Friday and Saturday. Co-sponsored by the Reno Coin Club, all activities will be held at the museum that was formerly the Carson City U.S. Branch Mint.
Historic Coin Press No. 1 will operate both days from 10 a.m. to noon, and 1 to 3:30 p.m. The press will mint silver .999 fine medallions for sale to the public.
Volunteer Ken Hopple will operate the press and give demonstrations both days. Reno Coin Club members will present programs on unique and rare coins both days from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The club also presents its popular quarter and dollar exchange and will give away foreign coins to young adults. Experts will be available to answer questions on numismatics, the study or collection of currency. Free packets of educational materials will be available at the coin press.
The Coin Week theme is “Building Tomorrows: Inspiration and Innovation at World’s Fairs.” Every year during the third full week of April, the Nevada State Museum and Reno Coin Club celebrate National Coin Week by letting others know about the joys of collecting and studying coins and other forms of money.
