Political Newcomers Compete to Challenge Amodei in Second Congressional District

CARSON CITY — Four Northern Nevadans with private-sector backgrounds and no political experience are competing to represent the Democratic Party in the 2nd Congressional District race in the November general election.

Come see the historic home where John Wayne's last movie, The Shootist, was filmed. Built in 1914, the Krebs Peterson Mansion turns 100 this year. Join us on Saturday, July 19, for the 100th Anniversary of the Krebs Peterson Mansion and Western BBQ benefitting the Elect Jason Woodbury Carson City District Attorney campaign. The event runs from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Mansion, located at 500 Mountain Street in Carson City. Admission is $25 per family and includes Western BBQ, volleyball, basketball, kids playground, bounce house, DJ and fun.

Carson City man jailed on felony domestic battery and home invasion charges

UPDATE: Carson City sheriff's office deputies made multiple felony and misdemeanor arrests from Friday through Monday during the Memorial Day weekend holiday period. Felony arrests were for domestic battery, weapon and drug charges.

Carson City Memorial Day service today at Lone Mountain Cemetery

Memorial Day Services are today, Monday, 1 p.m. at Lone Mountain Cemetery in Carson City. Organizers said the Sons of Veterans of the Civil War will fire a cannon during the ceremony as part of Nevada’s Sesquicentennial, the 150th anniversary of Nevada’s admission to the Union.

Among the speakers at the ceremony will be Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell and retired Navy Capt. David Treinen.

Eagle Valley Middle School aide accused of sexual conduct with student

A 28-year-old Eagle Valley Middle School teacher aide was arrested Friday on suspicion of having sexual contact with a student, according to a criminal complaint filed in Carson City Justice Court.

Stephanie Mariskanish was arrested without incident and is being held on $20,000 bail. According to the complaint filed on Friday, the woman is accused of four counts sexual contact with a 14-year-old between Feb. 1 and March 30, 2014.
