Carson City sheriff's mounted horse patrol training begins Wednesday
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 04/29/2014 - 1:49pmThe Carson City Sheriff's Office Mounted Unit will host training sessions for reserve officers Wednesday through Sunday at Silver Saddle Ranch and Fuji Park.
The private training sessions may include use of fireworks and simulated gunfire, said Joe Bruno, commander of the CCSO Mounted Unit. The public should take note and not be alarmed, he said.

Pair sought in theft of TV, DVD player from Walmart in Gardnerville
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 04/29/2014 - 10:00amTwo men are being sought by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office in connection with the April 14 theft of a television and DVD player from the Walmart store in Gardnerville.
The two men entered the store at 1511 Grant Avenue at 2:21 p.m. and picked a TV and DVD player from the electronics’ section, according to Sgt. Pat Brooks. The men left without paying for the merchandise, driving away in a red Ford Taurus. Store surveillance was able to capture images of the men in the above photos.
Brews, Brats and Ballet celebrated Saturday at Brewery Arts Center

Column: Foreign tax credit can save tax

Most folks will have paid some foreign taxes if they have foreign stocks that pay dividends. There are also other kinds of foreign income that might have foreign taxes withheld.
Carson City sheriff's deputies arrest pair on felony drug charges

Mary Jenae Adams, 24, of Carson City and Michael Louis Kizer, 30, of Schurz, Nev., were taken into custody at 9:51 a.m. in the area of Northridge and Roop streets.

March gaming revenue down in Carson City, soars at South Shore Lake Tahoe
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 04/29/2014 - 6:52amCarson City area gaming profits fell 2.8 percent in March, while statewide figures show a 7.6 percent increase over the same period a year ago, according to figures released Tuesday by the Nevada Gaming Control Board.
Casinos in Carson City, Minden, Gardnerville and all other areas of Douglas County except Stateline report gaming profits of $8,049,618 for the month.
