WNC Baseball: Bennett’s dramatic homer lifts Wildcats past Coyotes

Western Nevada College freshman outfielder Jake Bennett couldn’t have dreamed for a better situation to step to the plate in the ninth inning on Saturday afternoon.

With the Wildcats trailing rival College of Southern Nevada 3-2 and Joey Crunkilton on first base with one out, Bennett launched the first pitch from Josh Nuernberg over the right-field fence for a dramatic 4-3 comeback victory for WNC at John L. Harvey Field in Carson City.

Wheeler spokesman: Assemblyman gets two stents but doesn't have heart problem

Minden Republican Assemblyman Jim Wheeler had two stents implanted on Saturday but his spokesman says it wasn't a result of a heart attack and the press was wrong to say he had one, according to a news release.

Nevada District 39 Assemblyman, Jim Wheeler, checked into the Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center Hospital early this Saturday morning after awakening with chest pains, said his press spokesman Steve Donahue.

Carson City area road report for week of April 28 to May 4

Here is the Carson City area road report provided by the public works department for the week of April 28 through May 4, 2014. Beginning Monday, a project to provide utility and street improvements will begin on Vista Grande Boulevard.

The street will be closed between Topsy Lane and Old Clear Creek Road to vehicles until project completion estimated to be in June. Motorist will need to use other routes.

Nevada Assemblyman Jim Wheeler to have surgery after heart attack

Nevada Assemblyman Jim Wheeler, R-Minden, suffered a heart attack and will undergo surgery Saturday, according to his fellow lawmakers. Doctors planned to put in a stent, the lawmakers said. It’s a common procedure when there is some sort of blockage.

Carson City Animal Services closed after break-in

The Carson City Sheriff's Office is investigating a break-in overnight at the animal services facility at 3770 Butti Way. The shelter is closed today.

All animals were accounted for and safe. More information will be released once available.

Kirkpatrick: No Plans for Nevada Legislative Probe of Bundy-BLM Incident

CARSON CITY — Assembly Speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick said Friday she has no plans to launch a legislative inquiry into the recent dispute involving Bunkerville rancher Cliven Bundy and the U.S. Bureau of Land Management.

Douglas County Library hosts its annual Spring Book Sale, featuring more than 15,000 titles May 16 through May 18 at the C.V.I.C. Hall, 1602 Esmeralda Ave. in Minden.

The Carson City District Attorney’s office is moving to reinstate criminal charges against Ty Robben — including that he tried to solicit a hit man to kill Justice of the Peace John Tatro.

WNC Softball: Utah's Snow College slows down Wildcat offense

There has been no scarcity of hits for the Western Nevada College softball team in recent Scenic West Athletic Conference series with Colorado Northwestern and North Idaho College.

But on Friday, the Wildcats struggled at the plate against Snow College pitchers Taylor Allman and Belle Stoddard in Ephraim, Utah.
